  • Patent number: 5959033
Abstract: The present invention is directed to rubber modified polymers which contain a non-block grafted rubber having a degree of grafting of at least 30 percent at the point of phase inversion and a specified amount of grafted vinyl aromatic polymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 1997
Date of Patent: September 28, 1999
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Mehmet Demirors, Duane B. Priddy, Nicolaas M. A. Hermans, Rudi H. E. Veraart, Albert J. Heuvelsland, Kevin D. Sikkema
  • Patent number: 5070125
Abstract: Polyether polyols having an equivalent weight of from about 200 to about 5000 are prepared by the process of this invention. The process uses barium- or strontium-containing alkoxylation catalysts to provide products with reduced unsaturation in comparison to similar products produced with potassium hydroxide catalysis. The use of these catalysts also increases the capping efficiency with ethylene oxide to provide products with a higher primary hyroxyl content for the same weight percentage of ethylene oxide cap.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 8, 1991
Date of Patent: December 3, 1991
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
    Inventor: Albert J. Heuvelsland

  • Patent number: 4764626
Abstract: A 1,4-dioxane is produced by subjecting a one-phase liquid reaction mixture of at least one compound of the general formula:RO--(CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n --R (I)where n is an integer from 1 to 6 and each R is individually a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing 1 to 5 carbon atoms and a dehydration catalyst to a subatmospheric pressure and an elevated temperature sufficient to prepare 1,4-dioxane, which is removed as an overhead product. The method substantially reduces foaming and formation of tars and increases productivity.
