  • Patent number: 7448468
Abstract: The invention relates to an acoustically effective wheel house covering for vehicles, i.e. a wheel house covering which can reduce transmission of splash water noises in the passenger compartment of the vehicle and which can absorb the sound of rolling tires on a roadway, which wheel house covering comprises several layers of material.

  • Publication number: 20060159883
Abstract: The invention relates to a multi-layer, sound-absorbing lightweight component, in particular for motor vehicles. The object of the present invention is to create a sound-absorbing component for motor vehicles which is relatively light and at the same time has a high or even improved acoustic effectiveness compared to conventional components of this type. To achieve this object, a multi-layer component is proposed which has an air-permeable cover layer (17) and at least one air-permeable fleece layer (10?) of thermoplastic fibres, the cover layer (17) being coupled to the fleece layer (10?) in a sound-permissive manner. The component of the present invention is further characterized in that the fleece layer (10?) has a thickness in a range of 2 to 7 mm for a weight per area unit in a range of 500 to 1,500 g/m2 and is not connected or is only partially connected to a surface area of less than 20% of its surface facing the cover layer (17).

  • Patent number: 5633067
Abstract: An engine compartment casing element (1), in particular for sound absorption, with a foamed material element (2) attached to a wall element (3) which is preferably reverberant, the foamed material element (2) having a skin-like covering (5) on the side facing away from the wall element (3). The foamed material element (2) is perforated, the foamed material element (2) is also covered on both sides with an air-impermeable plastic sheeting (5) or (6) respectively which also covers the perforated areas (holes 4), and the foamed material element (2) is installed so that it runs at least in part at a distance (a) from the wall element (3).
