  • Patent number: 4855312
Abstract: This invention discloses a novel class of hydroxyalkyl oxazolidines, and polyoxymethyleneoxazolidines to be used as bactericides in aqueous surface coating compositions. The compounds have the following structural formulas: ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group of 3 to 8 carbon atoms or an aryl group of 6 to 10 carbon atoms; R.sup.1 represents hydrogen, an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group of 3 to 8 carbon atoms, an aryl group of 6 to 10 carbon atoms containing alkyl, halogen, alkoxy, nitro or other substitutuents; R.sup.2 represents hydrogen, an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl group of 3 to 8 carbon atoms, or an aryl group of 6 to 10 carbon atoms; and n represents an integer in the range of 0 to 8.

  • Patent number: 3959276
Abstract: A number of water-soluble, one-to-one quaternary ammonium adducts of unsaturated organic halides and dihalides with hexamethylenetetramine are known as being useful as antimicrobial agents. It has not been discovered that a two-to-one quaternary ammonium adduct can be prepared from hexamethylenetetramine and 3,4-dichlorobutene-1; this two-to-one adduct is a more active, less toxic antimicrobial agent than the known one-to-one quaternary ammonium adducts.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 26, 1974
Date of Patent: May 25, 1976
    Assignee: Cosan Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Jerome S. Luloff, Albert L. Eilender
