  • Patent number: 4933170
Abstract: This invention presents two series of novel hair fixing compositions, the first comprising copolymers of acrylates, N-substituted acrylamides and acrylic acid; and the second comprising copolymers of vinyl acetate or propionate, vinyl esters of a .alpha.-branched carboxylic acids, and alkyl maleates. Such materials, when neutralized with NaOH, KOH, or mixtures of these bases with certain long chain amines, exhibit an enhanced tolerance of non-halogenated hydrocarbons and are particularly useful.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 21, 1989
Date of Patent: June 12, 1990
Assignee: National Starch and Chemical Investment Holding Corporation
Inventors: Frank A. Nowak, Jr., Albert L. Micchelli, William M. Rouse, 3

  • Patent number: 4315910
Abstract: Aerosol hair spray compositions employing carbon dioxide or hydrocarbon propellents are improved with respect to shelf stability and solubility of the resin by the addition of water.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 5, 1978
Date of Patent: February 16, 1982
Assignee: National Starch and Chemical Corporation
Inventors: Frank A. Nowak, Jr., Albert L. Micchelli
  • Patent number: 4273760
Abstract: Hair conditioning shampoo compositions are described containing cationic polymers, anionic surfactants and optional nonionic surfactants. The shampoo compositions deposit the cationic polymer on the hair while the hair is washed using the shampoo, rendering the hair to be more manageable.

Inventors: F. Theodore Koehler, Albert L. Micchelli, Frank A. Nowak, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4192861
Abstract: The solubility of hair spray resins derived from copolymers of unsaturated monocarboxylic acids and vinyl or vinylidene monomers in alcohol-hydrocarbon propellent systems is substantially increased by use of specific long chain amines as neutralizing agents therein.

  • Patent number: 4009256
Abstract: A shampoo composition is disclosed comprising an aqueous solution of (1.) a cationic polymer which is a water-soluble acid salt of an aminoalkyl ester of a carboxylic acid polymer, (2.) an amphoteric detergent, and, (3.) optionally, at least one nonionic surfactant or at least one ionic surfactant or a combination thereof, wherein any plurality of ionic surfactants utilized consists of those of the same ionogenic class.

  • Patent number: 3973901
Abstract: A process for coloring hair and the hair coloring compositions employed therefor are disclosed. Said process essentially comprises treating the hair with an acid dye in the presence of an aqueous solution of a water soluble cationic polymer selected from the group consisting of water-soluble acid salts of aminoalkyl esters of homo- and copolymers of unsaturated carboxylic acids having from 3 to 5 carbon atoms. Said hair coloring composition essentially comprises an aqueous solution of a water-soluble acid salt of an aminoalkyl ester of a homo- or copolymer of said unsaturated carboxylic acids in combination with a small amount of an acid dye.
