  • Patent number: 5896958
Abstract: The drum brake has a brake support plate which is divided into a supporting body (10) and a back plate (22). The supporting body (10) has a central ring (12) for centering and securing to an axle housing of a vehicle, and an abutment carrier (16) against which brake shoes (38) can bear in a circumferential direction. The brake shoes (38) can bear against the back plate (22) in an axial direction. At the supporting body (10) a mounting means (20) for a wheel speed sensor (46) and a rest (56) for a jacket (58) of a brake cable (60) are additionally formed.

  • Patent number: 4860858
Abstract: In a spot-type disc brake for motor vehicles a floating caliper is guided displaceably on a brake support by means of sliding pins (26). Inner and outer brake pads are likewise displaceably mounted parallel to the sliding pins with respect to the brake support. On at least one of the sliding pins a resetting means (50) with a spring (52) is provided which is arranged around the sliding pin as part of a frictionally locking connection between the sliding pin and a bore guiding said pin. The bore (24) comprises at the end from which the sliding pin is inserted into said bore a widening (54) into which the spring (52) is installed with axial bias. The spring or a member cooperating therewith is in engagement with an outer surface of the sliding pin.

  • Patent number: 4582180
Abstract: The actuator comprises a piston (34) which has a stepped portion (36) formed with an annular groove (38) at its end projecting out of a cylinder (16). An annular protective sheet (50) is slipped on the stepped portion (36) and it comprises at its radially inner edge (52) inwardly projecting, resilient tongues (54) which are arrested in the annular groove (38). An annular elastic sleeve (46) is arranged behind the protective sheet (50), thereby being protected against heat, and provides sealing as against the piston (34), on the one hand, and the cylinder (16), on the other hand.

  • Patent number: 4270632
Abstract: An internal shoe drum brake comprises a pair of brake shoes, an adjustable length strut extending between the shoes and having a ratchet movement of which adjusts the length of the strut, an actuating lever pivotally connected to one end of the strut and engaging one shoe, the lever being so arranged that a force acting on one end in a direction generally parallel to the drum axis rotates the lever to exert a force on one shoe and a reaction force through the intermediary of the strut on the other shoe to urge said shoes apart, and a pawl engageable with the ratchet. To reduce the number of parts the pawl is pivotally mounted on the other shoe and is rotatable about its pivot to move the ratchet and thereby adjust the length of the strut when there is excess wear of the shoes. Furthermore, the strut preferably has a portion which is engageable with a surface portion of the brake back plate, or a member secured to the back plate, to react forces to the back plate.
