  • Patent number: 9587752
Abstract: An insertable backflow preventer is presented. The backflow preventer is provided with a cylindrical housing. The housing has a flow transition zone, a proximal orifice/ball seat, a ball with a specific weight that equals or is close to the specific weight of the surrounding fluid, and a distal retaining screen. The housing can have a flange provided on the outside of the housing at one end to facilitate securing the valve in a pipe. The valve is self-cleaning, can be placed in any orientation in a pipe and has low hydraulic head-loss. The valve's unique cost-effective design provides for easy and relative quick installation, eliminates the need to reconfigure existing plumbing, and can be performance tested remotely. Properly installed, it can dramatically improve the security of, for example, potable water sources in a building or other context, and inasmuch as when installed it is not visible, it is tamper proof.

  • Publication number: 20160101307
Abstract: Integrated flow control backflow preventer valve (“IFCBPV”) for new and existing wet- and dry-barrel fire hydrants, with barrel drain assemblies for dry-barrel hydrants, and hydrants equipped with such IFCBPVs, are presented. An exemplary IFCBPV can have a retaining screen comprising equidistant concave radial spokes intersecting at a central ring structure, a freely suspended check ball, and a lower ball seat with a seal. The upper surface of the retaining screen can be affixed to the hydrant's axial shaft, and can thus be used to open and close the hydrant via the ball. Alternatively, the retaining screen can be fixed and the axial shaft provided with a cup on its bottom that mates with the freely suspended ball that is caged between the retaining screen and the ball seat. An exemplary barrel drain assembly can comprise a spring-loaded piston, or alternatively, a check ball design as in the main barrel.

  • Publication number: 20050037730
Abstract: This invention relates to the use and proper placement in a vehicle of a mobile wireless phone having cellular or GPS positioning capability and an impact sensor, e.g. triaxial accelerometer. Said sensor instantly detects a serious vehicular accident or theft, then and without driver or passenger intervention, automatically transmits an emergency appeal for assistance to appropriate Police/Emergency Medical Services (PEMS), or Fire Rescue units, apprizing the PEMS of said exigency and location. Otherwise, the integrated mobile phone system will function in a manner that is similar to a conventional wireless mobile phone. Optionally, the integrated mobile wireless phone may include means for receiving an emergency medical signal and automatically communicates an appeal for emergency assistance when the user having said unit and having a predisposed life threatening medical condition, encounters a life threatening anomaly, e.g., heart attack.

  • Patent number: 6642844
Abstract: A time-critical automatic, instantaneous and direct (dispatcherless) vehicle to vehicle, auto-routing Police/Emergency Medical Service vehicle, notification and response system that provides interactive and direct communication between a vehicle, non-vehicle, e.g. parked aircraft, property or individual in need of immediate emergency assistance, and the nearest (primary) mobile P/EMS vehicle that is available to respond to the exigency. Rapid notification and response is achieved by using a conventional Global Positioning System (GPS), a cellular phone optionally having positioning capability for transmitting the emergency signal, and a vehicle fleet management system (FMS). The latter is modified and designed to operate with a flawless vehicle theft and/or accident characterization technology. The central processing unit processes data from the GPS/FMS automatically and routes a distress call to a secondary or tertiary P/EMS vehicle, i.e.

  • Patent number: 5929753
Abstract: A real-time (instantaneous) vehicle anti-theft warning, notification and tracking system is disclosed that eliminates false alarms by comparing a calculated displacement profile representing the characteristics of a measured displacement (or apparent displacement) of a vehicle with predetermined displacement profiles. The present invention employs a displacement sensor with a unique monitoring program that measures the rate-of-change, direction, and/or duration of displacement of a vehicle (e.g., an automobile or aircraft) over time, and accurately characterizes real and virtual displacements based on the comparison of the calculated displacement profile with the predetermined displacement profiles. The invention also may include GPS/cellular indication capability to alert the vehicle owner of a theft event, and may also include a discrimination indicator to alert the vehicle owner that GPS/cellular capability is not available.

  • Patent number: 4300527
Abstract: A heating system for dwellings or other enclosures includes a furnace in which a burner is isolated from a hot air or water system, and receives substantially all of its combustion air from outside the enclosure and preheated. A heat exchanger is provided between exhaust gases from the burner of the furnace and the combustion air.
