  • Publication number: 20120324836
Abstract: A method of applying a liner to a container mouth in a hot-fill operation, said method comprising the steps of: placing the liner over a mouth sealing surface of the container; heating the liner by induction or conduction; and cooling the liner immediately thereafter while biasing the liner against the mouth sealing surface for a sufficient length of time to permit curing and sealing of the liner to the mouth sealing surface.

  • Patent number: 6983857
Abstract: A venting cap liner used in a pressurized container closure arrangement. The cap liner includes a multi-layer sandwich structure having a first layer and a generally flat resilient intermediate layer. The layers include at least one perforation extending through the layers to enable gas flow therethrough. The first layer has a first surface including at least one channel extending from one edge of the first layer to another edge of the first layer. The intermediate layer is responsive to a gas pressure level in the container such that, at a first selected pressure level, the perforation extending through said second layer opens to allow gas to flow through the perforation and at a second selected pressure level, the intermediate layer expands to close the perforation thereby resisting gas flow.

  • Patent number: 6044994
Abstract: A sealing arrangement is provided having a container neck having a sloped land surface. The sloping land surface is configured to prevent the liner from slipping across the land surface when the cap is applied to the container. The cap has depending downwardly from its inner surface an annular bead positioned relative to the land surface such that, when the cap is applied to the container, the bead extends down into the mouth of the container radially inwardly of the land surface. The land surface, together with the bead, stabilize and stretch the liner upon application of the cap, urging the liner to conform to the land surface. At least one sealing rib depends downwardly from the lower surface of the cap to provide additional sealing force between the liner and the land surface.

  • Patent number: 6039196
Abstract: A child resistant closure is used with an associated container. The closures includes a closure cap having a circular top wall portion and a depending annular skirt portion. The skirt portion has an edge region spaced from the top wall portion. The cap includes at least one pivotal release tab extending from the skirt portion and connected thereto by a connector. The connector extends between the tab and the skirt portion at about the edge region. The tab further includes a ratchet extending therefrom to engage the container. The closure is removed from the container by urging the release tab inwardly of the closure to disengage the ratchet from the container. The closure can include a tear away tamper-evident band overlying the release tab to provide visibly discernible evidence that the closure has been removed from the container.

  • Patent number: 5799838
Abstract: A dual opening dispensing closure for use with an associated container includes a closure cap having a circular top wall portion and a depending annular skirt portion depending from the top wall portion. The top wall portion defines a pair of open dispensing regions. The cap includes a pair of flap-like cover portions. Each cover portion is adapted to cover a respective one of the dispensing regions. Each cover portion is connected to the top wall portion by a respective hinge region. Each hinge region defines a hinge line. The hinge lines are in spaced relation to one another and are separated from one another by a secant line extending across the cap. The hinge lines can be parallel to one another and formed generally perpendicular to the secant line. The cover portions are pivotable between an open position and a closed position independent of one another, and can be configured to pivot between the open and closed positions without interfering with pivoting of the other cover portion.

  • Patent number: 5513781
Abstract: A sifter and liner assembly and method of making the assembly which is configured for use with a container. The sifter is dimensioned to span the mouth of the container and has an upper surface, a lower surface and a least one aperture. The liner is dimensioned to cover at least the aperture of the sifter and includes an integral pull tab. A layer of permanent adhesive material is located on a peripheral edge of the lower surface of the sifter to secure the sifter to the lip of the container. A layer of impermanent adhesive material is located between the sifter and the liner for removably securing the liner to the sifter. The sifter and liner are retained together within the closure cap. The sifter, liner and closure cap form a package which can be stored, transported and applied to the container as a unit.
