    Abstract: A portable lighting unit is provided which is configured to attach to cables, railing, tubing or any other fixture. In one embodiment, the lighting unit comprises a first housing comprising a first pair of opposing notches, a second housing comprising a second pair of opposing notches, the first and second housings being attachable together with the notches cooperating to receive the fixture through the notches, a photovoltaic cell mounted to one of the first and second housings, a light source mounted to one of the first and second housings, and at least one rechargeable battery housed within one of the first and second housings, the at least one rechargeable battery electrically coupled to the photovoltaic cell and to the light source.
