  • Patent number: 4607564
Abstract: In a blower housing arrangement for a motorized vehicle of the type with a blower encased by a housing followed by a duct system, a preferably open-pore foam material is utilized for noise damping, this foam material being sealed at least on the inside of the housing by means of a skin. This foam material is locally supported and bordered along the edges by wall sections of the housing and/or of the duct system so that, in this zone, the foam material is the sole means of forming the wall. The wall sections constitute a skeleton which, at least during normal driving operation, is dimensionally rigid and supportive and which serves for the accommodation of installation components, operating parts, and mounting elements.

  • Patent number: 4597323
Abstract: A fresh air supply device for a heating, ventilating and/or air-conditioning installation of a motor vehicle is provided wherein the fresh air enters through a gap between the windshield and the hood into an air collecting tank. In order to prevent the admission of moisture to an air filter and to prolong its useful life, the water flowing off the windshield and entrained by the airstream is received by a channel oriented in the transverse direction of the vehicle. This channel is followed by a grill for separating out larger particulate matter entrained in the airstream. A downward-pointing ledge adjoins the grill for further demoisturizing and to deflect the air and at least partially covers a dust filter which is arranged in such a position in the airstream that dust dropping from its dirty side falls freely downwards.

  • Patent number: 4559994
Abstract: A motor vehicle heat exchanger for independently heating different passenger areas comprising first and second tube/fin block units for transferring heat from coolant flowing through tubes thereof to air flowing therethrough to first and second passenger areas, respectively. Common upper and lower coolant reservoir tanks supply coolant to both tube/fin units and receive coolant returning therefrom respectively. Intake tubes extend through a common gap between the first and second tube/fin units to supply heated coolant to the lower cooling tank.

  • Patent number: 4548355
Abstract: A device for regulating the heat output or heat capacity of a heat exchanger in an automotive vehicle with an actuating member to control the flow of a heat exchange medium and with a control device operating the actuating member. To provide input to the control device, signals are received from a highly rated internal temperature sensor and a lower rated heating air temperature sensor disposed at the outlet of the heat exchanger as well as a manually adjustable set point generator. The control device includes a pulse generator producing a triangular voltage of a constant frequency, with a differential amplifier for the signals of the temperature sensors as well as the set point generator. A comparator is provided for producing rectangular pulses in correspondence with the triangular voltage frequency, with a pulse width corresponding to the temperature signal of the differential amplifier. The heat exchanger is tubular and has a large ratio of heat exchange medium volume to heat dissipating surface area.

  • Patent number: 4537349
Abstract: The invention relates to a motor vehicle with an internal-combustion engine, with a heatable payload space and with a pipe flowed by air and leading into the atmosphere, which is divided into two pipe branches. A first heat exchanger flowed by the waste gases of the internal combustion engine is arranged in one of these pipe branches, while a second heat exchanger is arranged in the pipe downstream of the conjunction of the two pipe branches. The latter heat exchanger is flowed on the secondary side by a liquid serving to cool the internal-combustion engine, so that waste gas heat can be transmitted to this liquid, or cooling heat can be discharged to the exterior, as a function of heat incidence and heat demand. In certain embodiments, two heat exchangers are arranged in series in the pipe leading to the atmosphere, one operatively interposed in the engine cooling water circuit, the other operatively interposed in the engine cooling oil circuit.

  • Patent number: 4482092
Abstract: A heating and air-conditioning installation for motor vehicles, in which an adjustable desired temperature is kept constant in the interior space of the motor vehicle independently of changing conditions, includes a heat-exchanger connected to the hot water circulation of the engine as well as an adjusting member on whose position is dependent the heat quantity supplied to the vehicle interior space; the position of the adjusting member is controlled by an output signal produced by an electronic circuit as a function of the sensor detecting the heat quantity supplied to the vehicle interior space, an interior sensor, a setting device and an outside sensor; a switching device operable to switch from fresh-air operation to recirculated-air operation is also controlled as a function of a signal of the electronic circuit; the electronic circuit includes a delay element to produce a time-delayed intermediate signal from the values obtained from the interior sensor, the outside sensor and the setting device; the in

  • Patent number: 4437393
Abstract: An aggregate space or assembly compartment arranged between an engine compartment or a trunk and a splash panel of a motor vehicle. The aggregate space is closed off by means of a hood which can be swung upwardly and has an air inlet slot between an end edge of the aggregate space on a window side thereof and an adjoining zone of a body portion of the motor vehicle. The aggregate space accommodates an aggregate part of a heating/ventilating and/or air conditioning unit which in the interior of the aggregate space, takes over air deflecting and air distributing functions. The aggregate part includes a jacket for enhancing a water deposition or separation and a water drainage. Fresh air entering the aggregate space is conducted and deflected along the jacket and then passed to an air inlet opening set into an underside of the aggregate part. The air leaves the aggregate space through the inlet opening in an essentially upwardly oriented direction.
