  • Patent number: 8044232
Abstract: The present invention relates to a succinic diester polymer which is used in the preparation of water-in-oil macroemulsions. Said polymer, which has an excellent ability to stabilize a water-in-oil macroemulsion, has the formula (I) wherein L is a polyalkenyl group having a number average molecular weight of are poly(alkyleneoxy) chains with a molecular weight of from 500 to 1,200, where each alkyleneoxy group contains 2 or 3 carbon atoms and the number of alkyleneoxy groups being ethyleneoxy groups is at least 50% of the total number of alkyleneoxy groups, and R1 and R2 independently are alkyl groups having of from 1 to 3 carbons atoms. The emulsions of the invention can be used as a diesel fuel, a gasoline fuel, a heating fuel, a dry cleaning liquid, a metalworking fluid or a personal care formulation.

  • Publication number: 20090042736
Abstract: The invention relates to a biochip (5) comprising a porous support (10), wherein the porous support (10) comprises at least one surface coated with a coating, preferably a polymer coating (20), wherein the coating is patterned with a micro compartments (25) pattern, with the support providing a bottom surface to the compartments and the coating providing edges to the compartments, and wherein the pattern comprises at least 400 compartments per mm2. The biochip (5) can be obtained by a process comprising providing a porous support (10); coating at least one surface of the support with a coating (20); arranging between the coated surface and an ion etching device a shadow mask with a predetermined hole pattern; and ion etching at least part of the coating such that a patterned coating with micro compartments (25) is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6184399
Abstract: A process is provided for preparing a fatty acyl isethionate salt of the formula R1C(O)OR2SO3M which comprises reacting at least one fatty acid of the formula R1C(O)OH with at least one hydroxyalkanesulfonic acid salt of the formula HOR2SO3M in the presence of a catalyst, and distilling off water, wherein R1 is a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon having 5 to 31 carbon atoms, R2 is a linear, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and M is lithium, sodium, potassium, or ammonium and is characterised in that a foam control agent comprising a silicone oil is added. The foam control agent is added preferably once the reaction mixture is homogeneous. The process is suitably carried out with substantially equimolar amounts of fatty acid and hydroxyalkanesulfonic acid salt, preferably without distilling off any fatty acid.

  • Patent number: 5045230
Abstract: Thickening agents for aqueous systems are prepared by reacting aliphatic alcohols containing 8 to 22 carbon atoms with an ethylene oxide/propylene oxide mixture, then reacting the resulting polyether with 5 to 20 moles of ethylene oxide, and reacting the resulting alkoxylation product with a diepoxide, with 0.5 to 3 moles of alkoxylation product being used in the combination reaction per mole of diepoxide. The thickening agents may be blended with low molecular weight alcohol ethoxylates, and are especially suitable for hydraulic fluids.
