  • Patent number: 5595819
Abstract: Polyester film is disclosed having a thickness not greater than six microns with cubic calcium carbonate incorporated therein resulting in a Kt.sup.-0.5 of at least 21, where K is a stack stiffness constant and t is film thickness in microns. The film exhibits excellent slittability and winding performance, providing film rolls of uniform hardness with sufficient compressive strength to avoid film buckling. The film can be employed in capacitors, digital stencils and thermal transfer media.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 1995
Date of Patent: January 21, 1997
Assignee: E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Virgil L. Anderson, Gusty Feyder, Cathy Vanderdonckt, Albert W. Forrest, Jr., Patrick H. Young
  • Patent number: 5416959
Abstract: A tenter clip is provided for gripping a web of thermoplastic film between the curved surface of a toggle arm and an anvil surface which is tapered at each of its ends. The surface configurations of the toggle arm and anvil define effective surfaces for gripping the film while allowing the film to stretch under these surfaces. Beads are formed at the edges of the web during stretching. These beads wedge into substantially V-shaped gripping regions defined by the toggle arm and anvil to assist in the stretching operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 1, 1994
Date of Patent: May 23, 1995
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
    Inventor: Albert W. Forrest, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5314135
Abstract: An expandable mandrel for mounting a core for winding, in which inner elements are moved inwardly by a floating screw to cam outer elements outwardly to grip the core. The screw is not fixed in the axial direction. Each of the inner elements has a tapered surface slidably positioned in operative relationship with an opposed tapered surface on each of the outer elements. As the inner elements move inwardly the sliding contact of these tapered surfaces cam the outer elements into gripping contact with the inner surface of the core.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 12, 1991
Date of Patent: May 24, 1994
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Albert W. Forrest, Jr., Mark R. Jones
  • Patent number: 4850545
Abstract: An apparatus for winding rolls of thin, wide film. High quality rolls free from circumferential ridges are wound by pressing a segmented bowed roll against a winding roll.

  • Patent number: 4679283
Abstract: A device is disclosed for a variable speed carrier with power input from a chain drive to a sprocket on the carrier and power output to cones affixed to the sprocket and running on a pair of rails of variable spacing.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 30, 1985

  • Patent number: 4534918
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enhancing the electrostatic pinning force on a freshly cast, polymeric web by generating primary and secondary electric fields and localizing the flow of current in the secondary field at spaced points through the width of the web. This is achieved by providing conductive pins projecting from a secondary electrode toward a primary electrode.
