  • Patent number: 9168075
Abstract: A bone fixation assembly for securing a fixation device such as a bone plate, to bone includes a fixation device, including at least a through hole with isolated protrusions (such as pegs or spikes); and locking bone engaging members such as screws. The screw has a shank with a thread for engaging bone and a partial sphere head with a thread configured and dimensioned to match with the isolated protrusions of the hourglass shaped through holes of the bone plate. The bone plate has a through hole shaped like an hourglass which diameter matches that of the screw spherical head and is provided with multiple isolated protrusions. In use, the screw is threaded into the bone, through the hole of the bone plate at a selected angle. The partial sphere head of the screw engages in the protrusions of the plate hole resulting in the strong locking of the screw at the selected orientation within the through hole in just one single surgical action.

  • Patent number: 8608742
Abstract: A surgical cable and crimp device is provided. The cable has an enlargement (bead) affixed to one of its ends. The crimp member includes two holes. One of the holes includes a slot and a cavity. The cavity is sized to accept the bead of the cable, and the slot is sized to receive the flexible cable but not allow the bead to pass through. The other hole is a simple through hole. The cable can be inserted to loop the bone isolated from the crimp member. After the beaded end of the surgical cable is fastened to the crimp, the cable is passed through the simple through hole. The cable is then tensioned by the application thereto of a tensioning tool with the tool applied to the cable and to an abutment face of the crimp member.

  • Patent number: 8574268
Abstract: A bone plate system for internal fixation of bone fractures includes a bone plate having a plurality of bone plate holes. The holes are constructed to receive either a non-locking, locking, or variable-angle locking bone screw. The holes have discrete columns of teeth or thread segments arranged around the inner surface of the hole for engaging threads on the heads of locking and variable-angle locking bone screws. Conventional locking bone screws engage the bone plate coaxially with the central axis of the bone plate hole. Variable-angle locking bone screws can engage the bone plate at a selectable angle within a range of selectable angles relative to the central axis of the bone plate hole. The head of the variable-angle locking screw is at least partially spherical, and the thread thereon has a profile that follows the arc-shaped radius of curvature of the spherical portion of the screwhead.

  • Patent number: 8500746
Abstract: A novel coplanar X-ray guided method and aiming arm device for insertion of distal locking screws in intramedullary bone nails. Radiopaque target markers in the aiming arm enable the easy positioning of an X-ray source such that an X-ray beam is coplanar with the aiming arm transverse holes. After the X-ray source is accurately oriented, a single X-ray snapshot is enough to assess the exact distortion of the implanted intramedullary nail. The X-ray beam need not be coaxial with the nail holes. The aiming arm includes a mobile portion and a fixed portion fastened to the nail, and the aiming arm can be adjusted, displacing the mobile portion over the fixed portion, to compensate for the distortion of the intramedullary nail caused by implantation in bone.

  • Publication number: 20080262498
Abstract: A novel apparatus for treating fractures of the femur is disclosed. The assembly includes two hip implants positioned into the head and neck of the femur. The hip implants solidly lock into each other, while retaining the possibility of being slided together through either the oblique bore of an intramedullary nail or through the barrel of a side plate. This novel apparatus allows the surgeon to achieve sliding rotational control of the femoral head, while avoiding independent rotation of each screw around its own axis. This novel apparatus also avoids independent sliding of each screw.

  • Publication number: 20050122488
Abstract: A Portable Digital Visual Presenter specially designed to be used with 14×17 inches films on which the MRI and CAT scans are commonly printed. The present invention allows the whole film (commonly including between 8 and 50 images) and each individual image to be included in the shooting area of the digital camera, making the use simple, and friendly. The position of the film with respect to the digital camera is variable in order to allow each individual image to be situated at the centre of the camera's shooting area, fulfilling the said camera's shooting area. Since each member can be folded, it is possible to make the Portable Digital Visual Presenter compact so that users can conveniently carry such a novel Portable Digital Visual Presenter to different conference rooms.
