  • Patent number: 10915149
Abstract: A device includes a housing. The housing can define a duct having a central axis. A first loading surface can extend into the duct toward the central axis, while a second loading surface can extend into the duct toward the central axis. A first driver and a second driver can be situated within the duct along the central axis. The first driver can abut the second driver. A first spring biases the first driver away from the first loading surface, thereby causing the first driver to apply a first loading force to the second driver. A second spring applies a second loading force to the second driver, along a common direction with the first loading force, to bias the second driver away from the second loading surface, with the first spring and second spring operating in parallel on the second driver.

  • Patent number: 10893129
Abstract: An electronic device includes a first device housing and a second device housing. Each can optionally define a linear recess. A hinge couples the first device housing to the second device housing. The first device housing is pivotable about the hinge relative to the second device housing. A flexible display is situated in the linear recess, where included, and spans the hinge. The hinge includes a cam, a first support plate pivotally coupled to a first side of the cam, and a second support plate pivotally coupled to a second side of the cam. The first support plate, the cam, and the second support plate bridge the linear recess of each device housing when the electronic device is in an axially displaced open position, but define boundaries within which the flexible display defines a service loop when the electronic device is in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 10656684
Abstract: A method, electronic device, and computer program product for countering a semi-permanent deformation at an area of a foldable display. The method includes detecting when a display-having at least one hinge area that bends or folds, is placed in an angled position, and in response to the display being placed in the angled position, monitoring a time duration during which the display is in the angled position. The method further includes, in response to the display being placed in a fully-opened position after being in the angled position, calculating a degree of semi-permanent deformation associated with the at least one area of the display, in part based on the time duration, and triggering an increase in temperature at the at least one area of the display to counter the degree of semi-permanent deformation.

  • Patent number: 10409335
Abstract: A method, electronic device, and computer program product for countering a semi-permanent deformation at an area of a foldable display. The method monitors a time duration that the display is in the angled position. The method includes measuring a temperature associated with at least one area of the display while the display is in the angled position. In response to the display remaining in the angled position for greater than a calculated period of time, the method determines a degree of semi-permanent deformation associated with the at least one area of the display. The method further triggers an increase in temperature at the at least one area of the display to counter the degree of semi-permanent deformation.

  • Publication number: 20190012000
Abstract: An electronic device includes a deformable housing and a flexible display supported by the deformable housing. The flexible display can be touch-sensitive, and can include a touch sensor. One or more flex sensors detect when the electronic device is deformed at a deformation location. One or more processors, operable with the flexible display and the one or more flex sensors, then detect user input along a first portion of the flexible display disposed to a first side of the deformation location, and control a second portion of the flexible display disposed to a second side of the deformation location as a function of the user input.

  • Patent number: 9924464
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for identifying at least one alternate power source to provide power to a portable device during an upcoming time period of use. The method includes monitoring power parameters associated with at least one battery of the portable device and determining, based on the power parameters, whether the at least one battery that is currently coupled to the portable device is capable of powering the portable device for an entirety of an upcoming time period of use. In response to determining the at least one battery is not capable of powering the portable device for the entirety of the upcoming time period of use, identifying at least one alternate power source that may provide power for use during the upcoming time period of use. The method then includes generating and outputting a power management strategy, which utilizes the at least one alternate power source.

  • Patent number: 7405608
Abstract: A modulator apparatus operating at a low supply voltage, configured for receiving an input-voltage signal in base band and supplying an output-voltage signal at a given modulation frequency under control of a signal generated by a local oscillator and comprising a transconductor stage that carries out a voltage-to-current conversion of said input-voltage signal. A voltage-to-current conversion module is coupled to a current-mirror module configured for mirroring a current in a Gilbert-cell stage, which supplies an output-voltage signal under the control of said signal generated by the local oscillator. The Gilbert-cell stage further comprises an output load for carrying out a current-to-voltage conversion and supplying the output-voltage signal. Said transconductor stage further comprises a differential feedback network configured for reproducing said input-voltage signal on a differential load included in said voltage-to-current conversion module.

  • Patent number: 7101617
Abstract: A removable protective thermoformable coating for the packaging of electronic equipment. The coating includes a thermoplastic film and a microencapsulated silicone attached to one side of the film. The coating is vacuum formed and/or melted onto a component, releasing a one- or two-component silicone that forms a silicone layer. The silicone layer cures or hardens, and, together with the thermoplastic film, forms a protective coating. The coating may be removed or peeled off, as the silicone will preferentially adhere to the film. Also, a method for applying a protective coating to a component. The component is contacted with a thermoplastic film having silicone microcapsules on the contacting side of the film. The film is heated and drawn down over the component by pressure or vacuum, breaking the silicone microcapsules and releasing liquid silicone. The silicone is allowed to cure and form a coating.
