Abstract: A method of setting up a video telephone call between a first video telephone terminal and a second video telephone terminal on a data network includes the steps of: establishing a telephone call over a telephone network between the first and second terminals; exchanging between the first and second terminals during the telephone call availability signals to seek availability to hold a video telephone call; if the availability is confirmed, releasing the telephone call; establishing respective telephone calls between each of the first and second terminals and a corresponding access server of the data network, for achieving connection of the first and second terminals to the data network; establishing a signalling exchange between the first and second terminals through a service center of the data network to achieve the set up of the video telephone call; and establishing a peer-to-peer video telephone call between the first and second terminals over the data network.

Abstract: A network server having a current lower packet-interfacing layer and a current upper packet-processing layer is updated by providing an updated process having an updated packet-interfacing lower layer, an updated packet-processing upper layer packets, and a communication channel for diverting network packets from the updated lower layer to the current upper layer. First the current lower layer is replaced with the updated lower layer. Then the packets in the updated lower layer are checked to determine if they relate to transactions already under way on the current upper layer or new transactions. The current upper layer processes the packets relating to transactions already under way, and the packets relating to new transactions are processed the updated upper layer. When all the under-way transactions on the current upper layer have been completed the communication channel is closed.

Abstract: The method in accordance with the invention makes it possible to replace the programming conditions of a server(s) in real time, proceeding in such a way that the process which is to be replaced (1) coexists for a certain period of time with the replacement process (1′). The duration of this operation is decided by the replaced process (1), and it is possible to determine when the transactions which are already under way in the process which is to be replaced (1) have been completed.
