  • Publication number: 20090306668
Abstract: A device for securing cable around a bone comprises first and second handles pivotally coupled to one another and a first distal member a proximal end of which is pivotally coupled to a distal end of the first handle, the first distal member including a first crimp engaging protrusion in combination with a second distal member a proximal end of which is pivotally coupled to a distal end of the second handle, the second distal member including a second crimp engaging protrusion, and a depth level including an abutting surface, the first and second distal members being pivotally coupled to one another so that, when the first and second handles are drawn toward one another, the proximal ends of the first and second distal members are moved apart from one another, drawing the first and second protrusions toward one another to compress a crimp located therebetween.

  • Publication number: 20090272001
Abstract: A depth gauge for measuring the depth of blind holes in bones and/or nails inserted into bones. The measurement tool comprises: a probe with an abutment at its end to engage against the distal edge of the blind hole; a tubular body; and a grooved insert. After the probe, lying into the tubular body, is positioned through the blind hole to be measured, the grooved insert is slid forward inside the tubular body, surrounding the probe, and pushing the probe sideward, towards the blind hole wall. When probe and groove insert are retracted together, they firmly engage against the distal bone wall. The tubular housing is then pushed forward until it abuts against the proximal bone wall, allowing even in small diameter holes, an accurate reading of hole depth on the scale located at the rear end of the probe.

  • Publication number: 20090204157
Abstract: A bone plate system for fixing bone fractures includes a locking bone plate and a conically-shaped drilling sleeve. The bone plate has at least one threaded hole, and with the drilling sleeve screwed into the bone plate hole, a drill bit guided through the sleeve drills a hole into bone having a central axis angularly misaligned with the central axis of the bone plate hole. The angle between the drilled hole's central axis and the bone plate hole's central axis is equal to or less than the tolerance angle of the threads of the bone plate hole. This allows a bone plate screw to be imperfectly seated with respect to the bone plate hole and still screwed into the hole to lock the plate without jamming the screw head into the plate hole, while still allowing the screw to be screwed out if needed.

  • Publication number: 20090171402
Abstract: Cable and crimp assembly kits for fixing bone fractures include long-nose crimp pliers that have a pair of operating handles and connected opposed long jaws. The long jaws are designed to hold and crush a wire crimp. The jaws are long and narrow enough to be able to insert and crush a crimp through a small incision, such as used by a known wire passer tool, at a deeply located bone without spreading or opening wider the small incision. The long-nosed pliers can be used with a crimp alone or with a crimp and an intermediate part that provisionally holds a tension applied to an associated cable or wire.

  • Publication number: 20070012816
Abstract: A curved positioning and insertion instrument for inserting a guide wire into the femur has a curved guide tube with a distal end to be placed on the trochanter and/or the medial muscle and a proximal end for inserting a guide wire. The instrument also has a holding arm that links the guide tube to a handle. A positioning hook fitted with at least one correction bore for receiving the guide wire or another guide wire is arranged at the distal end of the guide tube. This structure makes it possible to easily insert further or additional guide wires relative to a reference guide wire.

  • Publication number: 20070005065
Abstract: A specially shaped hole in an aiming device which enables the surgeon to perform an incision through the aiming device transverse hole in a plane that contains nail hole axis. Incision is therefore important to prevent undesirable side pull stress over the drill guide inserted through the aiming device transverse hole, which causes apparent problems in order to fit the drill through the hole in the nail. Thus, at least one screw for interlocking the nail with surrounding bone can accurately be installed.

  • Patent number: 6730086
Abstract: The present invention discloses bone grasping tongs for seizing bones or bone fragments. The tongs comprise two mutually pivotable tongs levers fitted with clamping tips at the ends of the tongs levers for seizing the bone. The tongs further comprise a locking element to detachably lock the relative position of the tongs levers and a connecting member to connect with an additional component within an external fixation device. The locking element is located at a distance from the axis of rotation and the longitudinal axis of the connecting member is situated in the plane of pivoting of the tongs lever. The present invention also discloses an external fixation device for externally fixating bone fractures. The device comprises at least one bone grasping tongs, one elongated support, and at least one clamp which detachably connects the connecting member of a bone grasping tongs and an elongated support in a mutually rotatable manner.
