  • Patent number: 7035801
Abstract: A method of determining the language of a text message received by a mobile telecommunications device indicates receiving an input text message at a mobile telecommunications device; analyzing the input text message using language information stored in the mobile telecommunications device; selecting, from a group of languages defined by the language information, a most likely language for the input text message; and outputting, from the mobile telecommunications device, speech signals corresponding to the input text message, in the selected language.

  • Patent number: 6900381
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for changing the pitch of a tabulated waveform in wavetable based synthesizers. Harmonics that normally would be aliased before a transposition process are removed by a discrete time low pass filter at the same time that the tabulated waveform is reconstruction and resampling.

  • Patent number: 6608904
Abstract: According to the present invention, a technique is provided for canceling interference from a first audio signal leading to a loudspeaker. A measuring device measures energy of the loudspeaker to produce a measurement signal. An adaptive unit estimates from the measurement signal a plurality of coefficients. A plurality of multipliers multiply the plurality of coefficients by a plurality of periodic signals so as to produce a Fourier approximation of the interference. A summation unit combines the first audio signal having the interference and the Fourier approximation of the interference to produce a second audio signal having the interference suppressed.

  • Patent number: 6480824
Abstract: In a technique for canceling noise from a microphone communications path, an electrical equivalence circuit which is positioned close to and electrically matched to the microphone produces a signal free reference signal. The microphone converts speech to a voice signal. An analog multiplexer alternately switches from the microphone to the electrical equivalence circuit to produce a multiplexed analog signal composed of the voice signal from the microphone and the signal free reference signal from the electrical equivalence circuit. A wire connects the output of the analog multiplexer switch to an A/D converter. The wire picks up noise from the surrounding environment. The A/D converter converts the multiplexed signal having the noise to a plurality of voice samples taken from the voice signal portion of the multiplexed signal and a plurality of noise samples taken from the signal free reference signal portion of the multiplexed signal. A noise cancellation unit applies a noise suppression algorithm (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20020123308
Abstract: Methods, systems, and arrangements enable the generation of a replica of periodic interference that is disturbing a desired signal so as to subtract out an estimation of the periodic interference from the infected signal. In certain embodiments, a speech signal from a microphone of a mobile station is infected with “bumblebee” noise. In accordance with the present invention, a received signal includes a desired and an interfering component. The received signal is bandpass filtered around the expected frequency of the interfering component, and a fundamental frequency thereof may thereafter be ascertained. Harmonics of the fundamental frequency are generated so as to reconstruct an estimate of the interfering component in the frequency domain using determined weights and Fourier series theory. The interfering component estimate is subtracted from the received signal to determine a desired component estimate. The weights may be optionally adjusted in a feedback loop.

  • Patent number: 6195639
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for improving conventional, isolated word, speech recognition systems. According to exemplary embodiments of the present invention, a pattern matching algorithm is provided that permits an unknown speech signal to be recognized with fewer memory access operations compared to conventional techniques. The pattern matching algorithm performs multiple successive calculations on speech reference data retrieved from memory to thereby reduce the number of times that the same data is retrieved. By reducing the number of memory access operations, the throughput of the speech recognition system can be increased. As an alternative, the pattern matching algorithm allows for an increase in the size of the speech recognition system's vocabulary.
