    Abstract: One object of the present invention is to provide a mixture composed of 1) a cellulose ether derivative esterified at least with a biprotic acid group derivative expressed by the formula HOOC—B—COOH (I), wherein B is a linear aliphatic group represented by (CH2)x with x a positive integer from 1 to 5 or is a 5-member or 6-member cycloaliphatic group and 2) a cellulose or cellulose derivative esterified at least with a phthalic acid derivative represented by the following formula (II). wherein R1 is an all group and y is a positive integer from 0 to 3. Said mixture shows an enhanced stability against hydrolysis when subjected to conditioning at high relative humidity and temperature. The composition may be useful in order to get antihalation layer on photographic films as well as enteric coating of pharmaceutical dosage and for controlled-release applications such as for cleaning formulation.

    Abstract: A photographic base is protected against the adverse effects resulting from the accumulation of static electrical charges by providing it with a first antistatic hydrophilic layer and a second protective hydrophobic layer coated onto said first layer, said first layer having been formed by coating onto said base a liquid coating composition comprising a hydrophilic non-diffusing sulfonated polymer in the presence of an epoxy-silane compound. The antistatic base is particularly useful for photographic elements comprising at least one photosensitive image-forming layer, on one side thereof, and the first antistatic layer and the second protective layer on the opposite side thereof. The antistatic layer is durable, abrasion-resistant, non-tacky and can withstand the aqueous photographic processings without adverse effects.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved photographic polyester support base coated with a first hydrophobic subbing layer and a second hydrophilic subbing layer, the improvement consisting of having said second subbing layer derived from a hardener containing, aqueous coating composition including (1) gelatin, (2) a vinyl addition polymer compound and (3) a low viscosity highly sulfonated water soluble polyacetal compound derived from the reaction of an aldehyde sulfonic acid compound with a polyvinyl alcohol compound, the relative quantities of said gelatin and vinyl addition polymer compound to the polyacetal compound being such as to provide good adhesion characteristics without any significant loss in antistatic properties.
