  • Patent number: 4466712
Abstract: In an external rear view mirror, a drive mechanism is interposed between the body shell for supporting a mirror and the member for attaching the body shell to the body of a motor vehicle which allows a to-and-fro traversing movement of the body shell about a vertical axis. This traversing movement, which is controlled by a kinematic mechanism mounted within the body allows the reflecting surface of the mirror to scan the region behind the vehicle. A wiper mechanism is also provided for wiping the reflecting surface of the mirror. A single reversible electric motor is supported in the body shell for selective coupling to the drive mechanism or the wiper mechanism by respective clutches.

  • Patent number: 4387292
Abstract: The electrical resistance hot-plate of the plug of the lighter comprises a holder which houses and retains a heating element in the form of a metal strip shaped, for example, in accordion-pleated folds or a coil, so as to have consecutive turns which together define respective flat faces at the two opposing edges of the strip, at least one of which is so situated in correspondence with an open side of the holder for receiving the tip of a cigarette. The consecutive turns of the strip are spaced apart so as to define a plurality of interstices, and the holder has at least one opening opposite its open side to expose a greater part of the corresponding flat face of the heating element and allow a flow of air from one face of the element to the other.

  • Patent number: 4331883
Abstract: The unit comprises a casing in the form of a portable box in which there are contained a pneumatic compressor and an electric motor for driving the compressor. The motor is a low voltage d.c. motor and in the casing there is also contained a transformer - rectifier combination for supplying both the motor and low voltage external utilizers. The shaft of the electric motor extends perpendicular to a wall of the casing and has, at an end accessible through an opening in this wall, a power take-off connectable to a mechanical utilizer. The shaft of the compressor is coaxial to the shaft of the motor and is coupled to the latter by means of a clutch. There are provided means for disengaging the clutch to prevent the shaft of the compressor being turned by the motor shaft when a mechanical utilizer is coupled to the power take off.

  • Patent number: 4255645
Abstract: An electrical cigarette-lighter device for mounting on a vehicle dashboard has a fixed hollow body part and a removable elongate candle part normally stowed in the body part. The candle part includes an electrically-energizable burner and a surrounding outer sleeve. To facilitate use of the device, the operative front face of the burner is arranged to face sideways in the sleeve and an access aperture is provided in the sidewall of the sleeve. With such an arrangement of the candle part, a user upon removing the candle part out of the dashboard-mounted body part, will normally only need to turn the candle part through 90.degree. to light a cigarette held between his lips.

  • Patent number: 4247173
Abstract: A rear view mirror which can be extended and retracted laterally in a vertical plane, with respect to the body of a commercial vehicle, by means of an arm structure comprising an expandable polygonal linkage which interconnects a mirror body with a rotatable part of an articulated support fixed to the vehicle; the linkage having pivots formed by bolts which can be tightened to lock the mirror in an adjusted setting.
