  • Patent number: 11505745
Abstract: A use of zwitterionic compound in preparation of dynamic-scattering-mode-based liquid crystal material. A liquid crystal material is also described. Such material contains liquid crystal and dopant, and the dopant is zwitterionic compound. A liquid crystal electro-optical device comprising such liquid crystal compound and the use of such optical device are also described. Zwitterionic compound is used as dopant to induce a stable dynamic scattering mode in liquid crystals.

  • Publication number: 20200181494
Abstract: The limitation of the different classes of responsive liquid crystals such as volatility in case of low molecular weight liquid crystals (LMWLCs) can be overcome by the development of a responsive film based on polymerliquid crystals (PLCs) and reactive mesogens (RMs or reactive liquid crystal monomers) to create a responsive film or coating material which appears to be easily alignable and processable. That coating material shows a large response of which the properties can be tuned in a modular approach. In this way, the advantages of both materials, PLCs and RMs, were combined, yielding stable films, which can be aligned when desired and which stimuli-responsive properties can be tuned by the choice of RMs. Thus mixtures of PLCs with RMs open the doors to a wide variety of stimuli-responsive coating systems, without the need of time consuming trial-and-error synthesis of PLCs and closed liquid crystal cells.

  • Publication number: 20200133036
Abstract: A color-changing light-adjusting liquid crystal device and a light-adjusting method may include a main liquid crystal and a dichroic dye, which may be filled between substrates disposed oppositely, in a non-powered state. The main liquid crystal may be subjected to a specific arrangement orientation under an induction of an alignment layer, in a powered state, and the main liquid crystal may be subjected to a reorientation. Dichroic dye molecules may be rotated along with the reorientation of the main liquid crystal so as to scatter incident light in a visible spectrum, convert a light-transmitting state into a light-scattering state at a macro level, and display a color of the dichroic dye in the main liquid crystal, thus implementing light adjustment. The color-changing light-adjusting liquid crystal device does not contain a polymer network, so that a polymerization process is not needed and a polymer aging is avoided.

  • Publication number: 20190331946
Abstract: A light-adjusting device and a light-adjusting method thereof are disclosed. A main liquid crystal and salt from which ions are ionized are filled between adjusting areas formed by oppositely arranged substrates, the main liquid crystal is arranged in a specific orientation under an induction of an alignment layer under an unpowered state, the main liquid crystal is re-oriented under an powered state, meanwhile, ions ionized from the salt from which ions are ionized move quickly under an effect of an formed electric field, which disorganizes the specific orientation arrangement of the main liquid crystal, so that the main liquid crystal moves irregularly following a quick movement of the ionized ions, so as to scatter incident light in a visible light band, and further adjust transmission and scattering of visible light, thus realizing light adjustment.
