Abstract: The invention relates to a transverse element comprising: a crossmember (2) designed to support a motor vehicle instrument panel, chiefly comprising a tubular element; and at least one support element (28), having the shape of an L, designed to support one end of said tubular element and intended to be fixed to a front pillar (8) of said vehicle. According to the invention, the transverse element comprises a first reinforcing element (48) designed to connect a first branch (30) of the support element to the crossmember (2) and a second reinforcing element (50) designed to connect the second branch (32) of the support element to the crossmember (2).

Abstract: An instrument panel crossmember for vehicles that have different configurations is intended to extend between two front pillars of a vehicle. The crossmember has a first portion extending opposite the vehicle driving seat. One end of the first portion connects to a front pillar of the vehicle, and another end of the first portion is connected to a fixing device. The fixing device is designed selectively to support a second portion of the crossmember that extends facing the vehicle passenger seat and/or to support a strut designed to connect the crossmember to the floor of the vehicle, depending on the configuration of the vehicle.

The invention concerns an assembly method including assembling a ventilation element (40, 42) on a cross-member (26, 28), and assembling the panel instrument on the cross-member (26, 28) such that a centering device penetrates into the orifice. The method includes: prior to assembling the ventilation elements (40, 42) on the cross-member (26, 28), arranging thereon a base (10) of the centering device of reduced height so that it does not obstruct the assembling of the ventilation elements (40, 42), and, prior to assembling the instrument panel on the cross-member (26, 28), arranging, on the base (10), a body of the centering device. The invention is applicable to motor vehicle cockpits.

The inventive device includes a projecting element (22) on the end of the duct (20) that is intended to be applied against the plate (13), a slot (15) in the plate (13) having an essentially complementary shape to that of the projecting element (22) and members for locking the projecting element (22) in the slot (15). The invention is suitable for motor vehicle dashboard crossmember beams.

The method includes making a beam (10) which delimits an enclosing volume for receiving the duct between the two openings (12, 14), making the duct (16) which is specifically reversibly deformable between a working state and a retracted inserting state, placing the duct (16) in its inserting state, inserting the duct (16) in the beam (10) through an opening (12, 14) thereof, and placing the duct (16) in its working state. The invention is applicable to motor vehicles.
