  • Patent number: 5461977
Abstract: The device has a sheet-transfer cylinder (2) with a movable setting plate (3) which bears the sheet grippers (4) and whose lateral ends are individually adjustable during each revolution of the transfer cylinder (2) with the aid in each case of a roller lever (9) in the circumferential direction in such a way that the sheet transferred to the impression cylinder is in a position which corresponds to the precise printing register. For this purpose, each roller lever (9) mounted movably on the transfer cylinder (2) is guided in a guide path (15c), surrounding the cylinder axis (1) in an annular manner, of an actuator (15, 16) which is suspended pivotably above the cylinder axis (1). Said actuator is provided with individually adjustable stops (19a, 19b) which, by interaction with peripheral cams (24a to 24d) pivot the relevant actuator (15, 16) by a predeterminable amount during each revolution of the transfer cylinder (2) and thus displace the relevant end of the setting plate (3).

  • Patent number: 5317390
Abstract: Individual printed image elements from an image to be inspected are allotted individual nominal ink density values, as by scanning an ideal printed sheet by a CCD matrix camera. The ideal values are stored in a main memory having segments for maximum and minimum values for each image element. A multiplicity of proof images are scanned, and their density values measured and stored for each proof judged acceptable by an inspector. Thereafter, the variations in the acceptable proof density values are stored in the main memory as maximum and minimum acceptable deviations from the initial nominal values for each individual image element to provide a subjective tolerance value for the nominal density values in the main memory.

  • Patent number: 5282417
Abstract: The intaglio printing machine has three machine stands (I, II, III). Essentially, the impression cylinder (1) and the plate cylinder (2) are mounted in the first stand (I), the stencil rollers (10) and the inking unit (11) are mounted in the second stand (II), and the color-collect cylinder (8) is mounted in the third stand (III). The third stand (III) is adjustable in such a way that it can be removed from the space between the first and second stands and brought into an inoperative position, so that it is possible to bring the second stand (II) up against the first stand (I) to form an intaglio printing machine with direct inking. This results in a convertible intaglio printing machine by means of which a collect intaglio print can be made in a first operating position, in which all three stands assume their working position, and a direct intaglio print can be made in a second operating position, with the use of only the first and second stands.

  • Patent number: 5230456
Abstract: The draw-roller unit has only one suction roller (20b, 21b) as a draw roller, in which a constantly acting suction effect is effective along that circumferential portion round which the paper web is looped, whilst the remaining circumferential portion experiences no suction effect. The suction roller has a fixed hollow roller core (65) and a roller casing (61) rotatable about this and consisting of plastic-impregnated carbon fibres, with suction ports (62) distributed over its circumference. The roller core (65) is equipped, on its one side, with an axial connection piece (68b) for fastening to the machine stand and for connection to a vacuum source, on its other side with a bearing journal (66) and, on its circumference having passage orifices (70) with two radial partition walls (69) which are arranged at a specific angular distance from one another and which enclose a suction chamber between them.

  • Patent number: 5136942
Abstract: The web-fed printing machine preferably intended for the printing of banknotes has two closely adjacent impression cylinders (2, 3), each of which interacts with several blanket cylinders (4, 6). Each blanket cylinder (4, 6) is inked by a plate cylinder (5, 7) which receives its ink from its own inking unit (9, 9'; 11, 11'). The paper web (P) runs between the respective impression cylinder (2, 3) and blanket cylinders (4, 6), partially looping first round one impression cylinder (2) and then in the opposite direction round the other impression cylinder (3), so that the two sides of the paper are successively printed directly with the individual colors. All the blanket and plate cylinders interacting with an impression cylinder (2, 3) are arranged on a respective common exchangeable machine stand (15, 16).

  • Patent number: 5125336
Abstract: The device has a transfer cylinder (2) with a drum (4) which is adjustable in the circumferential direction relative to its shaft (3) and which carries sheet grippers (8) with a front stop (8a) for the sheets (B). The diameter of the transfer drum (2) is equal to 1/N of the diameter of the plate cylinder which carries N printing plates. The shaft (3) of the transfer cylinder (2) rotates at a constant speed and executes N revolutions when the plate cylinder is executing one revolution. By means of a controllable setting device, the drum (4) is so displaced relative to the shaft (3) during each revolution that the front stop (8a), when its transfer position in which a sheet is transferred to the impression cylinder (D) is passed, assumes a position by which the exact register of this sheet in relation to the position of the printing plate printing it on the plate cylinder is set.

  • Patent number: 5042378
Abstract: The printing machine is composed of an indirectly printing printing unit (A), and a sheet transport device (B), composed solely of drums (18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24), and of a following intaglio printing unit (C). The indirectly printing printing unit (A) has two interacting blanket cylinders (3, 5), each of which is inked with several colors by several plate cylinders (12, 15; 7, 10). The sheets are passed onto one of the blanket cylinders (3) from a carry-over drum (2) and, after passing through the nip between two blanket cylinders (3, 5), thereby being printed on both sides, are taken over by a transfer drum (18) of the sheet transport device. The circumferential region which is located between the carry-over drum (2) and transfer drum (8) and over which the sheet passes extends over at most 180.degree., preferably less than 150.degree., so that that free circumferential region of this blanket cylinder not covered by the sheet is available for accommodating several plate cylinders.

  • Patent number: 4717141
Abstract: A rotatable sheet brake roller, whose peripheral speed is varied in response to the speed of a printed sheet transport means, is disclosed. Initially, the sheet brake roller runs at a peripheral speed generally the same as the sheet transport speed. Once the sheet is released from its transport, the sheet brake roller decelerates to slow the sheet to a sheet delivery speed. A dampening unit is associated with the sheet brake roller which has a surface that repels printing ink. The dampening unit removes ink particles from the surface of the sheet brake roller to eliminate smearing which would otherwise occur, particularly in recto and verso printing when a freshly printed surface of the printed sheet contacts the surface of the sheet brake roller.

  • Patent number: 4598642
Abstract: The plate cylinder is provided with at least one groove opening out at the cylinder periphery, and disposed therein a fastening device for the two plate ends extending into the groove. This fastening device consists of a tightening bar which can be tilted about an axis parallel to the cylinder axis by means of hydraulically actuatable pistons provided in one groove boundary wall, a clamping piece, and a tightening support. The two plate ends are introduced on both sides of the clamping piece and, when the tightening bar is tilted by the action of the piston, are wedged tight between tightening bar and clamping piece or clamping piece and groove boundary wall, simultaneously tightening the printing plate. The tightening support can be forced radially outwards for the purpose of wedging the tightening bar in its position tightening the plates. The fastening device requires a groove of only small width which moreover tapers radially outwards, forming only a narrow circumferential gap.
