  • Publication number: 20130227156
Abstract: Various embodiments relate to a communications system and related method for determining an address of a service access point (SAP) upon establishment of a service over a packet data network. A customer SAP connected to a provider SAP may request a link-local address for another customer SAP on the far-end of the packet data network. When the service, such as a virtual leased line (VLL) is not yet established, the provider SAP may generate an address for the customer based on another value, such as its own media access control (MAC) address. The generated address may then allow the service to become established, which may allow Neighbor Solicitation and Neighbor Advertisement packets to be sent, analyzed, and extracted. The provider SAP may then replace the generated address with the address extracted from the Neighbor Solicitation or Advertisement packet received after the service was established.

  • Publication number: 20130182715
Abstract: Various exemplary embodiments relate to a method and related network node and machine-readable storage medium including a policy and charging rules node (PCRN) receiving a plurality of related service requests from different devices. The PCRN may proceed to generate a policy and charging control (PCC) rule based on at least one service request and other information stored in the PCRN if a mate service request does not arrive during the duration of a waiting timer. If the mate service request arrives subsequent to the expiry of the waiting timer, the PCRN may then generate a subsequent PCC rule to replace the previously generated rule, with the new PCC rule incorporating information from both of the mate service requests.

  • Publication number: 20130128133
Abstract: A spatial light modulator comprising an array-type liquid crystal panel, a polarization beam splitter, an oblique wave plate and a converging lens. The polarization beam splitter is orientated to direct a source light towards a reflective planar surface of the array-type liquid crystal panel. The oblique wave plate and converging lens are located between the polarization beam splitter and the array-type liquid crystal panel. The converging lens is configured to direct light from the reflective planar surface onto a facing surface of the polarization beam splitter.

  • Publication number: 20130123111
Abstract: A device and a method of thermal management. In one embodiment, the device includes an integrated circuit, including: (1) a conductive region configured to be connected to a voltage source, (2) a transistor having a semiconductor channel with a controllable conductivity and (3) first and second conducting leads connecting to respective first and second ends of said channel, wherein a charge in the conductive region is configured to substantially raise an electrical potential energy of conduction charge carriers in the semiconductor channel and portions of said leads are located where an electric field produced by said charge is substantially weaker than near the semiconductor channel.

  • Publication number: 20130122257
Abstract: An apparatus includes a substrate having a top surface, a substantially regular array of raised structures located over the top surface, and a layer located on the top surface between the structures. Distal surfaces of the structures are farther from the top surface than remaining portions of the structures. The layer is able to contract such that the distal surfaces of the structures protrude through the layer. The layer is able to swell such that the distal surfaces of the structures are closer to the top surface of the substrate than one surface of the layer.

  • Publication number: 20130121336
Abstract: Avoiding duplicative forwarding of multicast traffic is disclosed. A join message received at a first router is directed to a peer router of the first router from a first downstream node of the first router and the peer router without passing through the peer router. The join message indicates that one or more downstream nodes of the peer desire to receive from the peer multicast traffic specified in the join message. It is determined whether the join message from the first downstream node to the peer would result in duplicative forwarding by the peer of multicast traffic from an upstream source upstream of the peer and the first router based on the join message. Based at least in part on a determination that the join message would result in duplicative forwarding of the multicast traffic, an election procedure is initiated to avoid such duplicative forwarding of the multicast traffic.

  • Publication number: 20130077911
Abstract: Embodiments provide an optical device that includes a star coupler, a polarization bam splitter (PBS) and a polarization rotator. The star coupler includes a port at a first end face. The polarization beam splitter is optically coupled via a first side to the star coupler port, and is further optically coupled via a second side to a first port of an optical coupler. The polarization rotator is optically coupled between the polarization beam splitter and a second port of the optical coupler.

  • Publication number: 20130077493
Abstract: Virtual connection route selection apparatus and techniques are disclosed. At a communication traffic routing apparatus, metric information associated with multiple different routes for a virtual connection, such as a PseudoWire, toward a destination is collected. The metric information may be collected from one or more remote route computation elements capable of computing routes for virtual connections between the routing apparatus and other routing apparatus over an underlying communication system, or during actual establishment of the virtual connections, for example. An initial or re-optimized route for a virtual connection can then be selected at the routing apparatus based on the collected metric information. In some embodiments, although the virtual connection routes are paths computed by Path Computation Elements (PCEs), actual path selection decisions are distributed to routers.

  • Publication number: 20130028173
Abstract: An UMA network controller (SGW, CM) is dedicated for an UMA mobile network comprising a CS core network (CN2) and a PS core network (CN1) with a SGSN. This UMA network controller comprises a security gateway (SGW) and a control means (CM) coupled one to the other. The security gateway (SGW) is arranged i) to ensure security procedures between mobile stations (MS) and the UMA world, ii) to forward messages relative to the control plan for the packet switched core network (CN1) between mobile stations (MS) and the control means (CM), and iii) to forward messages relative to the user plan for the packet switched core network (CN1) between mobile stations (MS) and the serving GPRS serving node (SGSN). The control means (CM) is intercalated between the security gateway (SGW) and the serving GPRS serving node (SGSN) and arranged for handling the control plan for the packet switched core network (CN1).
