  • Patent number: 4597237
Abstract: A panel for modular construction of building walls and the like which comprises a flat insulating core which includes a multiplicity of air-filled shell-like cavities in a staggered matrix of layered sheets which are separated from each other by a binding filler material. The core is surrounded and captured by a rigid rectangular frame having identical side members and identical end members which are contoured and oriented so as to engage the opposing side and end members of adjacent panels so as to align and fasten the panels to each other in assembly. Resilient sealing means are disposed between side and end rails of adjacent panels for forming an air-tight barrier across the assembled panels. The core is covered by facing layers of cement and gypsum construction for providing building exterior and interior wall surfaces respectively. A vapor barrier is sandwiched between layers of gypsum construction.

  • Patent number: 4577449
Abstract: A prefabricated structural connector for steel-frame buildings adapted for end-to-end interconnection of vertical column members of predetermined substantially square tubular cross section and connection of at least one horizontal beam member having a central web. The connector comprises a central portion of hollow substantially square tubular cross section identical to the column cross section, and first and second hollow substantially cylindrical tubular end projections permanently joined to and projecting in opposite axial directions from the central portion. The substantially cylindrical projections have surface flats which are adapted for close telescopic insertion into an associated column end and to be welded thereto. Mounting brackets are permanently joined to the connector central portion and project laterally outwardly for connection with the web of a beam member.

  • Patent number: 4440434
Abstract: A vehicle body is formed of a plurality of straight structural tubular members welded together to form the vehicle frame and a plurality of plastic panels secured to the structural members to provide the exterior surface of the body. Selected plastic panels have channel-forming projections molded on the inner face thereof which straddle the adjacent structural member. These panels are attached to the structural members by securing plastic adaptors to the inner edges of the channels so that the metal structural frame members are completely enclosed in plastic. The adaptors are secured to the panels by means of self-plugging, blind rivets from the inner side of the body. The interior lining of the vehicle is applied to the inner surfaces of the plastic panels.

  • Patent number: 3973548
Abstract: An internal combustion engine, the static parts of which are formed as die castings. The engine includes a plurality of cylinders each closed at its upper end by an individual cylinder head casting. Each cylinder head casting has at least two tubular extensions thereon forming air intake and exhaust passageways and at least two valve stem guides. All of the cylinder head castings have flat horizontally extending upper faces all lying in a single plane and on which a valve train casing casting is seated. A single camshaft is journalled in the valve train casing and arranged to operate the intake and exhaust valves of all of the cylinders. The upper end of the valve trains casing is closed by a cover having a breather opening communicating with the interior of the valve train casing and also having air intake openings communicating with the air intake passageway of each cylinder. A shroud is mounted over the cover to define an air chamber which communicates with atmosphere through an air filter.
