Abstract: A device is described for closing and laterally sealing plastic film wrapped bundles containing sheets or the like, by wrapping them in a thermally shrinkable plastic film, which comprises two sealing plates (25,26) suitable to be moved against lateral opposite sides of a bundle (29) for sealing them. These plates (25,26) are preferably hinged on two slides (2,3 ) suitable to be contemporaneously either approached or moved apart from each other as a function of the width of the bundle (29) to be laterally sealed. Two nozzles (31,32) are moreover provided, which form air jets against laterally protruding portions (30) of the plastic film, so that said protruding portions are easily folded by said plates (25,26). A so closed and sealed bundle is then carried inside an oven for thermally shrinking the wrapped film.

Abstract: The subject matter relates to an equipment adapted to perform coordinated transfer of packaged signature bundles from packaging facilities to downstream machines.The equipment substantially comprises endless conveyor belts mounted on stationary or movable supporting structures. Said conveyors are installed within a passage to be extended between said facilities and downstream machines, which passage may also be used as a service lane.In particular, the movement of the conveyors and/or supporting structures thereof into the passage is automatically controlled, being interlocked with suitable sensors, adapted to sense the possible presence of operators within the operating range of said conveyors.

Abstract: A means for packaging parcels feeds parcels along a conveyor into a stop bar. A continuous web of thermally shrinkable film is provided from separate supplies above and below the conveyor as a barrier between the conveyor and a platform in the same plane as the conveyor. A pusher member moves the parcels laterally off of the conveyor into the web of film so that the film is withdrawn from the supplies as the parcel is pushed onto the platform. Sealing means is movable into the space between the parcel on the platform and the conveyor to press together, cut and seal the film webs leaving a new web barrier in place at the edge of the conveyor. Movable stop means on the platform into which the pusher pushes the parcel opposes the movement of the parcel but is movable in the direction of the pusher and parcel. The movable stop means has drive means controlling its movement. Sensor means is positioned to be engaged by the pusher member the parcel of the film to control the rate of movement of the movable stop.

Abstract: A continuous signature stacker machine is provided with a transversely operating assembled package ejecting device. The stacker includes a platform onto which individual signatures are sequentially fed on edge to form a stack of predetermined length and a slide member against which the formed stack is pushed. The slide member is moved by a pair of chains slowly in one direction as a stack is formed and rapidly in the opposite direction to a position for forming a new stack after the formed stack is removed. The formed stack is manually or automatically pressed and strapped.

Abstract: A signature feeder comprises an in-feed table for conveying signatures disposed in a stack adjacent one another and each in an almost vertical aspect to a signature separator operating to separate the signatures one at a time from the stack and transfer them to a signature elevator operating to raise them to an upper horizontal conveyor on which they are disposed in a partly overlapping shingle configuration.

Abstract: Apparatus for automatically picking up and positioning packs of individual signatures comprises a rigid framework which defines a bridge crane including a pair of parallel fixed support rails for guidance of a pair of movable rails on which is slidably supported a transfer head assembly including a jaw assembly having two jaws which can be moved towards or away from one another to pick up or release packs of signatures. The jaw assembly is movable up or down with respect to that part of the transfer head assembly mounted on the rails of the bridge crane, and is automatically controlled by a microprocessor to pick up a pack of signatures from a stack on a pallet, transport the pack to a treatment station, rotate it about a vertical axis to orientate it correctly before lowering, release it and then move to another stack to load a different treatment station.

Abstract: A signature feeding machine which can be used on sheet feeders and the like utilized in book-binding, comprises a loading plane for supporting and conveying stacks of adjacently disposed signatures to an inclined signature elevator which transfers individual signatures to the level of a delivery plane on which the individual signatures are disposed substantially horizontally. Between the loading plane and the inclined elevator there is interposed an intermediate conveyor connection section pivoted at its end nearest the loading plane and provided with means for adjustment of its inclination.

Abstract: A support structure for a signature loader or other such loading machine used in conveying of signatures for book binding comprises a fixed base having a rectangular plan form and carrying a movable support frame which is slidable along guides extending transversely of the length of the fixed base and the support frame whereby the support frame may be displaced transversely of its length so as to laterally adjust the delivery position of signatures loaded thereby. Clamping means carried by the movable support frame allow this latter to be fixed in any laterally adjusted position with respect to the fixed base once appropriate adjustments have been made to adapt the signature loader to the dimensions of signatures to be loaded at any one time.

Abstract: Loader for signatures and the like, comprises, between the signature feeding path and the signature raising path, a step capable of breaking and dividing the signature pack, so as to form a stack portion of very reduced weight. The adhesion of the signatures to be conveyed on the raising path is improved by applying a negative pressure. There is further provided a sensor for detecting the presence of signatures on the raising path which sensor is swingably supported and is capable of acting as an abutment for the signatures forming the pack portion.

Abstract: The present invention is constituted by a device which acts, simultaneously, as an accumulation member for pacts of signatures (15) and as a device for conveying these latter to subsequent working stages. The device comprises a structure (20) supporting at least one pair of shafts (1,2), disposed horizontally and provided each with a pair of sprockets (3,4; 5,6), over which pass special conveyor chains (7,8) constituted by articulated links (9) capable of rotating about articulation pins (10) and some of the pins (10) supporting pairs of pulleys (11,12), suitably spaced, and disposed on the same side or, alternatively, on opposite sides of the chain itself. The pulleys (11,12) have a diameter such that they project above the links (9) and longitudinally adjacent pairs of pulleys (11,12) carry belts (16) which also project above the chain links (9) to provide a support surface on which the signatures can rest.

Abstract: A device for symmetrically opening signatures made up of several sheets and arranging them onto a transport saddle, comprising a signature feeder having signature gripping means and signature opening means, in which device for opening signatures a substantially vertical guide length is provided. Associated therewith, symmetrically on either sides, are the means for opening the signature.
