Abstract: An improved process for the production of ammonia by the synthesis of hydrogen and nitrogen employs a high pressure electrolyzer to produce hydrogen at the high pressures required by the ammonia synthesis process without use of mechanical compressors, utilizes the byproduct high pressure oxygen for refrigeration purposes needed in the process and combines hydrogen and nitrogen in a high pressure reactor. Steam formed in the cooling of the reactor is used to generate electricity for use in the electrolyzer to produce the hydrogen and the oxygen.
