Abstract: A lighting fixture or luminaire in which a multi-tube fluorescent lamp may be oriented in a horizontal position while focusing the omnidirectional output from the lamp. A swivel assembly enables the lamp to move as a single unit with the reflector housing, thereby to maintain the alignment of the lamp tube to the reflector surface while allowing aiming of the light beam. In one embodiment of the invention, a socket housing snap fits into the reflector housing so that the lamp rotates simultaneously with the reflector housing. The beam spread delivered by the luminaire has a bright center and a soft perimeter so that the bright center may be used as accent lighting and the peripheral light may be used for soft general lighting.

Abstract: A lighting system comprising a power jack, a first or second type plug connector and luminaire assembly. The power jack is adapted to receive either a first or second type plug connector. The luminaire assembly includes a lamp socket subassembly, and a globe subassembly. The lamp socket subassembly comprises a lamp socket which is supported by a lamp socket support housing which bears a plurality of lamp socket support projections. The globe subassembly includes a globe, a globe support housing with engaging projections and a globe retaining element. The lamp socket support housing is adapted to be received within a portion of the globe support housing and interconnected by engagement of the lamp socket support projections with the engaging projections. In the engaged configuration, air-flow channels are formed between the housings. Air-flow passages are also formed between the globe and the globe support housing when interconnected by retaining element.

Abstract: A specific, illustrative modular stem system for lighting apparatus comprising hollow stems, each having first and second ends; a connector plug mounted at the first end; an in-line connector mounted inside the stem adjacent to the second end, the connector being configured for receiving the plug of another stem so as to permit connection of the stems end to end; a flexible joint so as to permit flexure of the stem upon the application of lateral forces to the stem system, means for dually securing the connector to the stem and the plug to the connector so as to facilitate connection of the stems end to end; and a lamp adjacent to the second end of the lowermost stem.
