  • Publication number: 20220346959
Abstract: An orthopaedic implant includes an acetabular bearing and an acetabular shell component. The bearing includes a convex outer surface having a hemispherical surface, a curved lead-in surface, a flat flange surface, a curved relief surface, and a flat tapered surface. The curved relief surface extends inward relative to the flat tapered surface, and the flat flange surface extends outward relative to the flat tapered surface. The shell component includes a concave inner surface having a tapered surface configured to engage the tapered surface of the bearing. An annular groove is defined in the concave inner wall of the shell component and is configured to receive the flat flange surface. Methods for assembling and using the prosthetic implant are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20220346960
Abstract: An acetabular prosthesis assembly includes an acetabular shell component and an acetabular bearing component. The shell component includes a concave inner wall having a tapered surface with multiple anti-rotation slots defined therein. The bearing component includes a convex outer wall as well as an annular flange and multiple anti-rotation keys extending radially outward from the outer wall. When the anti-rotation keys are positioned in rotational alignment with the anti-rotation slots, the flange of the bearing component is positioned in contact with the tapered surface of the shell component. When the anti-rotation keys are positioned out of rotational alignment with the anti-rotation slots, the flange is spaced apart from the tapered surface. Methods for assembling and using the acetabular prosthesis assembly are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20220331120
Abstract: An orthopaedic components, prostheses, and methods for a hip arthroplasty are disclosed. An acetabular prosthetic component includes an outer rim and a cavity defined by an inner wall. The cavity is sized to receive a femoral head of a femoral prosthetic component. The inner wall includes a curved surface extending inwardly from the outer rim to an inner end, and a semi-spherical surface connected to the inner end of the curved surface. The inner wall is shaped to resist dislocation of the femoral head component from the cavity and permit the femoral head component to articulate over a range of motion.

  • Publication number: 20220183848
Abstract: An acetabular prosthesis for use in a hip arthroplasty surgical procedure is disclosed. The acetabular prosthesis includes a ceramic acetabular shell liner component configured to be secured to an acetabular shell component. The acetabular prosthesis also includes a metal ring affixed to and encircling the ceramic acetabular shell liner component. The acetabular prosthesis also includes an augment molded to and distally extending from the metal ring. The augment is shaped to modify a range of motion of a femoral prosthetic component when the femoral prosthetic component is fitted into the ceramic acetabular shell liner component. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20210169654
Abstract: An acetabular shell liner for use in a hip arthroplasty surgical procedure is disclosed. The acetabular shell liner includes a semi-hemispherical inner bearing layer, which includes a rim and a dome attached to the rim. The semi-hemispherical inner bearing layer includes a polymeric material having a first thickness, at an apex of the dome, and a second thickness, at the rim, that is less than the first thickness. Additionally, the acetabular shell liner includes a semi-hemispherical outer reinforcement layer mated with and encasing the dome of the semi-hemispherical inner bearing layer. The semi-hemispherical outer reinforcement layer includes a metallic material to provide structural support to the semi-hemispherical inner bearing layer.
