  • Patent number: 11654039
Abstract: Described is a venting device including a flexible outer covering defining an outer surface and an inner surface, a set of helicoidal venting strips, and a set of helicoidal buffers. The outer covering has a first end and a second end and a longitudinal axis therebetween. Each venting strip is anchored to the inner surface and extends substantially between the first end and the second end and the set of venting strips is arranged substantially helicoidal and defines a set of helicoidal seams therebetween. The set of helicoidal buffers includes a buffer covering an inner opening of each seam of the set of helicoidal seams where each buffer is configured to shield the inner opening of the corresponding seam from penetration and each buffer is anchored to at least one of the outer covering and a neighbouring venting strip of the set of venting strips.

  • Patent number: 10524936
Abstract: An orthopedic or prosthetic support including at least three layers that allows for aeration and cushioning of the enclosed area is described herein. The orthopedic or prosthetic support includes an inner cushioning layer which is compressed against the skin in use. An intermediate scaffolding layer is situated substantially parallel to the inner cushioning layer and is maintained in spaced apart relationship with the inner cushioning layer by spacer members. An exterior layer overlays the intermediate scaffolding layer and may be either a flexible breathable fabric such as velvet or a thermoplastic with a plurality of perforations. The inner cushioning layer and the intermediate scaffolding layer include a plurality of perforations providing air pathways through the two layers. The grid-like arrangement of spacer members also define air passages between the inner and intermediate layers which further enhance circulation of exterior air to the skin covered by the orthopedic or prosthetic support.

  • Patent number: 9554944
Abstract: Methods and devices for dressing a wound are disclosed. One such dressing includes a layer of spaced protrusions, each protrusion shaped to receive medication for treating a wound and a plurality of holes defined in the layer, the holes configured to allow evaporation of exudate from the wound. Another such dressing includes multiple layers, each layer sandwiched over the next and including spaced protrusions, with alternate layers comprising absorptive materials. The alternate layers of absorptive materials can communicate via holes in the non-absorptive layers to allow exudate to travel from between the absorptive layers and away from the wound.

  • Publication number: 20070191749
Abstract: A brace for providing therapeutic pressure to a person's or animal's body part is provided together with a venting device for use with a cast or brace. The brace has a rigid exterior shell which is perforated over a substantial portion of its surface. An interior resilient liner is arranged in the shell and this liner is also perforated. At least a portion of the liner comprises two inner and outer layers of flexible material and spacer members connecting these layers and forming air passageways. At least the inner layer is porous. The venting device comprises two half sections which, when combined together, enclose a body part. Each half section is preformed to closely fit around a curved side of the body part and comprises spaced-apart inner and outer layers of flexible material with at least the inner layer being porous. Again, spacer members are arranged between and connect these layers and form air passageways.

  • Patent number: 7250034
Abstract: A surgical cast venting device comprises two elongate strips or two layers of flexible material, at least one of which is porous. The strips or layers are spaced apart from each other and extend parallel to each other. Flexible, solid spacer members are arranged between the two strips or layers and connect them together. These members form air passageways between adjacent spacers so that air is normally free to pass along the passageways. A moisture-absorbent fabric layer extends along an outer side of the porous strip or layer opposite the spacers. In an alternate version, there is a first strip which is porous and a series of substantially flat, flexible outer members arranged in a row from one end of the strip to an opposite end. The outer members are spaced from the strip and opposite side edges of the strip and of the outer members are aligned with one another.

  • Publication number: 20040162511
Abstract: A venting device adapted for placement around body part prior to application of a surgical cast including a piece of fabric and aerating devices affixed to the inner surface of the fabric. Padding material preferably made of ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) or PLASTAZOTE and is affixed upon at least some of the aerating devices and is positioned to be disposed between the body part and each aerating device. Padding material may form a plurality of padding envelopes into which aerating devices may be inserted. Aerating devices are preferably elongate perforated tubular members. Padding material may be elicoidally wrapped along the length of the tubular members. Padding material can have perforations some of which align with perforations in the tubular members. To assist the tubular members to bear the weight of the body part, rigid cylinders can be placed over portions of the tubular members and stoppers at the end of tubes can be provided.

  • Patent number: 6616622
Abstract: A surgical cast venting device comprises an elongate strip of porous fabric material and a number of relatively short, elongate plastic tubing members distributed over and attached to the elongate strip on one side thereof. The tubing members each extend substantially parallel to this one side and are open ended. The elongate strip can be wound around part of a human's body or an animal's body prior to application of a surgical cast. Preferably the tubing members each have ventilation holes distributed along their respective lengths. The fabric material can be gauze and the tubes can be attached thereto by adhesive. A multiple hook array fastener arrangement can extend along and be secured to a first longitudinal edge section and is adapted to detachably secure its edge section to a second, opposite longitudinal edge section when the fabric strip is wound around the body part. A number of different types of aerating devices that can be used instead of plastic tubing are also disclosed.
