Abstract: A monitoring device and connected monitoring method are provided for monitoring an operating area of an operating machine. The operating machine includes a work member and support and movement means for the work member. The monitoring device includes at least an optical recording unit able to acquire images of the operating area surrounding the work member. A management unit is configured to receive and process the images and to send a command signal to the work member when an obstacle is detected in the operating area. A positioning member is able to position the optical recording unit in relation to the position of the work member and in relation to the possible presence of one or more fixed and/or moving obstacles in the operating area.
