  • Publication number: 20110275998
Abstract: Devices and methods for delivering a fluid to a patient are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a delivery system includes a reservoir for containing a fluid and a fluid communicator in fluid communication with the reservoir. An electrochemical actuator is coupled to the reservoir and configured to exert a force on the reservoir upon actuation such that fluid within the reservoir is communicated through the fluid communicator. The actuator includes a first end that is constrained and a second end that is not constrained. The actuator is configured to bend at a location along a length of the actuator when actuated such that the second end of the actuator is displaced in a direction toward the fluid reservoir. The actuator can be an electrochemical actuator. The apparatus can further include a transfer structure disposed between the actuator and the reservoir configured to contact the reservoir upon actuation of the actuator.

  • Publication number: 20110275996
Abstract: Devices and methods for delivering a therapeutic agent to a patient are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a delivery system includes a reservoir containing a fluid and a fluid communicator in fluid communication with the reservoir. An actuator is coupled to the reservoir and configured to displace and exert a force on the reservoir for a time period upon actuation such that fluid within the reservoir is communicated through the fluid communicator. An amplification mechanism is coupled to the actuator. The amplification mechanism is configured to increase at least one of the force, the displacement, or the time period the force is exerted by the actuator on the reservoir. In some embodiments, a transfer structure is disposed between the amplification mechanism and the reservoir. The transfer structure is configured to contact the reservoir upon actuation of the actuator. In some embodiments, the actuator can be an electrochemical actuator.

  • Publication number: 20110275997
Abstract: Devices, methods, and kits for delivering a therapeutic agent to a patient are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a reservoir for containing a fluid, a first actuator, a transfer structure, and a second actuator. The first actuator has a first configuration and a second configuration and is configured to exert a first force on the reservoir when moved from its first configuration to its second configuration such that a first volume of fluid within the reservoir is communicated out of the fluid reservoir. The transfer structure is disposed between the first actuator and the reservoir and has a surface configured to engage the reservoir such that the first force exerted by the first actuator is distributed across a surface of the reservoir engaged by the transfer structure.

  • Publication number: 20110275995
Abstract: Devices and methods for delivering a therapeutic agent to a patient are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a delivery system includes a reservoir configured to contain a fluid, a first actuator coupled to the reservoir, a second actuator coupled to the first actuator, and an adaptor at least partially disposed between the first actuator and the second actuator. The first actuator and the second actuator are configured to collectively exert a force on the reservoir such that at least a portion of the fluid within the reservoir is communicated out of the reservoir. The adaptor is configured to couple the first actuator and the second actuator.

  • Publication number: 20050012434
Abstract: An electrical power generation system includes a transducer that generates electrical energy under dynamic mechanical loading. A buffer is mechanically coupled to the transducer and adapted to be mechanically coupled to a structure. The buffer facilitates the transducer to operate within a predetermined mechanical loading range to allow the system to provide electrical energy. An electricity generator module includes a transducer that generates electrical energy under dynamic motion conditions. A circuit coupled to the electrically transducer converts the electrical energy into usable electricity at a circuit output. A planar housing encloses the transducer and circuit and (i) allows the transducer to be exposed to the dynamic motion conditions and (ii) provides electrical contacts that facilitate delivery of the useable electricity for external circuitry.
