  • Patent number: 8566022
Abstract: In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in methods, systems, and program products for identifying a location of a mobile computing device. A first location estimate of a mobile computing device and an accuracy of the first location estimate is determined at a mobile computing device based on wireless signals received from one or more beacons. A time period based on the accuracy of the first location estimate is determined. One or more subsequent location estimates of the mobile computing device and respective accuracies are determined. The determination of the subsequent location estimates is stopped at an end of the time period. A preferred location estimate from the determined location estimates is determined at the mobile computing device.

  • Patent number: 8562785
Abstract: A two piece ceramic showerhead includes upper and lower plates which deliver process gas to an inductively coupled plasma processing chamber. The upper plate overlies the lower plate and includes radially extending gas passages which extend inwardly from an outer periphery of the upper plate, axially extending gas passages in fluid communication with the radially extending gas passages and an annular recess forming a plenum between the upper and lower plates. The lower plate includes axially extending gas holes in fluid communication with the plenum. The upper plate can include eight radially extending gas passages evenly spaced around the periphery of the upper plate and the lower plate can include inner and outer rows of gas holes. • Publication number: 20130274895
Abstract: A prosthesis system includes a reconfigurable socket. The socket changes configurations to adjust the socket fit. The socket includes a socket main body with a window and a panel positioned in the window. The panel and the socket main body cooperate to define a cavity for receiving a residual limb. A lacing system is coupled to both the socket main body and the panel and moves the panel with respect to the socket main body to adjust a volume of the cavity. A tensioning mechanism holds the lacing system to position the adjustment panel. The prosthesis system also allows for the escape of moisture from within the cavity.

  • Publication number: 20130275057
Abstract: A sensor having a set of grid of bars that are in contact from their bottom at the corners with a set of protrusions that are in contact from above with a plurality of intersections, each having a sensing element, of a grid of wires disposed on a base, and a top surface layer that is disposed atop the grid of bars, so that force imparted from above onto the top surface layer is transmitted to the grid of bars and thence to the protrusions, and thence to the intersections of the grid of wires which are thereby compressed between the base and protrusions; and that the protrusions above thereby focus the imparted force directly onto the intersections. A sensor includes a computer in communication with the grid of wires which causes prompting signals to be sent to the grid of wires and reconstructs a continuous position of force on the surface from interpolation based on data signals received from the grid of wires. A method for sensing.

  • Publication number: 20130275082
Abstract: In exemplary implementations of this invention, a jammable structure functions as an HCI interface. A user provides input by changing the shape of a flexible layer of the jammable structure (e.g., by pressing against it or stretching, twisting or bending it) and receives haptic feedback (e.g., varying stiffness). Sensors are used to determine the shape of the flexible layer. The sensors output data that is indicative of electromagnetic waves that have traveled through the jammable media or of electrical or magnetic phenomena that are produced by the waves. For example, visible or infrared light may be shone through a transparent jammable media to the flexible layer and reflect back to a camera. The media may comprise granular particles (e.g., glass beads) and a liquid (e.g., oil) with matching indices of refraction. Or capacitive sensing may be used to detect the shape of the flexible layer.

  • Publication number: 20130272474
Abstract: An enhanced passive containment air cooling system for a nuclear power plant that increases the heat transfer surface on the exterior of the nuclear plant's containment vessel. The increased surface area is created by forming a tortuous path in or on at least a substantial part of the exterior surface of the containment vessel over which a cooling fluid can flow and follow the tortuous path. The tortuous path is formed from a series of indentations and protrusions in or on the exterior surface that form a circuitous path for the cooling fluid.

  • Publication number: 20130275864
Abstract: Various embodiments of systems and methods for automatically generating a layout plan are described herein. The method involves invoking original layout information for digital report elements rendered on an original layout region. The optimized layout plan for rendering the digital report elements on a target layout region is generated by: classifying the digital report elements into multiple arrays of digital report elements, deriving origin values for the digital report elements as a quotient of original dimensions of the digital report elements in the corresponding array, determining dimension quotient for the digital report elements based on the derived origin values for the digital report elements in the corresponding array, and determining target layout values as a function of the derived origin values and dimension quotient. The digital report elements are rendered on the target layout region based on the optimized layout plan defined by the target layout values.
