  • Publication number: 20080040645
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide methods and systems for improving the reliability of data stored on disk media. Logical redundancy is introduced into the data, and the data within a logical storage unit is divided into sectors that are spatially separated by interleaving them with sectors of other logical storage units. The logical redundancy and spatial separation reduce or minimize the effects of localized damage to the storage disk, such as the damage caused by a scratch or fingerprint. Thus, the data is stored on the disk in a layout that improves the likelihood that the data can be recovered despite the presence of an error that prevents one sector from being read correctly.

  • Publication number: 20080037224
Abstract: A heat sink has a heat-dissipating portion and a contact portion for contacting an electric device generating heat. The diameter of the contact portion is smaller than that of the heat-dissipating portion. The heat-dissipating portion has a plurality of fins. The contact portion is disposed on a bottom surface of the heat-dissipating and formed with the heat-dissipating portion as a single unitary member. The contact portion includes a first axial cross section and a second axial cross section. The first axial cross section is away from the heat-dissipating portion, and the second axial cross section is near the heat-dissipating portion. The diameter of the first axial cross section is larger than that of the second axial cross section.

  • Publication number: 20080040141
Abstract: An improved system and method for facilitating a transaction between a buyer and one of a number of sellers is provided. The transaction is related to a project specified by the buyer. A set of sellers are identified from a database. A flow control process operates over a number of processing cycles. In each processing cycle, the flow control process selects sellers from the set for classification as sellers of a particular type (“Invited Sellers”). The system automatically enables at least one action carried out by the sellers of the particular type. The duration of the processing cycles preferably varies over the processing cycles and is derived from a time period specified by the buyer as well as a predetermined constant that results in exponential reduction of the process cycle durations.

  • Publication number: 20080036998
Abstract: The present invention provides a probe beam profile—modulated optical reflectivity metrology system having a modulated pump source for exciting the sample. A separate probe beam is directed to interact with the sample in a manner so that the rays within the probe beam create a spread of angles of incidence. A detector array simultaneously measures intensities of the rays within the reflected/diffracted probe beam simultaneously at different angles of incidence. The intensity and angle of incidence information is used to analyze the sample.

  • Publication number: 20080040190
Abstract: Described is a system for multi-mission scheduling. The system is configured to compile a list of missions, where each mission includes at least one task. Additionally, each mission has a mission value associated with it such that the mission value reflects an ordering priority of the mission. The system also compiles a list of available resources that can be utilized to complete the tasks. The resources have, varying capabilities of completing tasks. Based on the lists, the system allocates and schedules the resources to complete tasks within the missions to maximize a total mission value of completed missions. Thus, the system schedules multiple missions to maximize the value of completed missions given available resources, whereby a mission is scheduled when the totality of its tasks have been allocated a sufficient amount of resources.

  • Publication number: 20080039850
Abstract: Apparatus for guiding a cutting tool in a surgical procedure on a bone. The apparatus includes a fixation block which can be fitted on to a bone, a guide block which can be fitted on to the fixation block, and a worm drive assembly for adjusting the orientation of the guide block rotationally relative to the fixation block about the said pivot axis. The guide block defines a path for a cutting tool, in which (i) the guide block can be translated relative to the fixation block along a translation axis so as to vary the distance between the guide block and the fixation block, and (ii) the orientation of the guide block relative to the fixation block can be adjusted lo rotationally about a pivot axis which is approximately perpendicular to the translation axis.

  • Publication number: 20080040215
Abstract: An example embodiment of the present invention provides a process for inserting a source media stream into a target media stream, which media streams might be in container file format. The process opens and reads into memory structural information from a target media stream and structural information from a source media stream. The process then finds the nearest prior key frame to an insertion time and splits a chunk of media samples if the key frame's sample is not at the beginning of a chunk. The process adjusts the structural information for both streams in order to effect the mid-roll insertion of the source media stream into the tamer media stream. The process then writes onto an output media stream the adjusted structural information for the source and target media streams and then pipes onto the output media stream the media data for the source and target media streams.

  • Patent number: 7328974
Abstract: The present invention relates to an inkjet printer ink cartridge, which configures a sponge-free ink-filling device into a combined structure of a case and an ink outlet base body, which is then attached onto a printed circuit by PECVD. A stand having a recess on the ink outlet base body thereon can be used to dispose a socket. A nozzle plate connected to a heater chip can be inserted to the socket therein. The heater chip is electrically connected to a heating element in airflow guides formed on a surface of the socket thereto. A vertical wire attached to the socket is electrically connected to the vertical wire bent on the printed circuit at an edge of the stand. Therefore, when the heater chip has been used for some time and is required to be replaced, only the nozzle plate and the heater chip are independently replaced, whereas the case and the ink outlet base body can both be repeatedly used.

  • Patent number: 7328618
Abstract: To perform a non-destructive condition assessment of a pipe carrying a fluid, an actual value representative of the propagation velocity of an acoustic disturbance propagating between two longitudinally separated points on the pipe is determined. A corresponding predicted value for the propagation velocity is computed as a function of at least one wall thickness parameter of the pipe by using a theoretical model for the propagation of acoustic waves in the pipe that assumes said pipe has a finite wall thickness with a predetermined circumferential thickness profile. The wall thickness parameter is then computed by matching the actual value with the predicted value, for example, by substituting the actual value in a formula predicting the theoretical value.
