  • Patent number: 4381743
Abstract: Control of cylinder swirl in an internal combustion engine is provided by a swirl generating inlet port having a movable wall to vary the cross-sectional area of the port in a swirl portion surrounding the valve axis. In a preferred embodiment, a wall of thin flexible spring material extends the length of the port and is tensioned or released to vary the flow area.

  • Patent number: 4186476
Abstract: The invention provides a method by which the hood of a motor vehicle is precisely aligned and centered relative the fenders and the header without alternating trial-and-error steps of inspection and adjustment. The hood is prepared for assembly by attaching the hood hinges at a precise longitudinal location and attaching the latch striker at a position having a precise vertical distance from the appearance surface of the hood and precisely centered transversely between the edges of the hood. Pads attached to the hood at the forward corners are milled to a precise vertical distance from the appearance surface of the hood. The body is prepared to receive the hood by attaching the latch assembly to the header at a precisely centered transverse location and at a precise vertical distance from the appearance surfaces of the fenders and header. The adjusting screws for engaging the hood pads are adjusted to a precise vertical height relative the appearance surfaces of the fenders and header.

  • Patent number: 4106803
Abstract: Attachment of an adhesive-backed molding on a vehicle body panel includes studs welded to the panel and mating bores provided in the molding. The studs are outwardly inclined relative one another. The bores in the molding have an angle of inclination generally equal to the inclination of the studs. The resilient molding is stretched somewhat to effect engagement of the molding over the studs. The tension in the resilient molding causes the molding to ride down the inclined studs and wedge the molding and adhesive against the vehicle body panel to provide a mechanical connection and adhesion promoting engagement therebetween.

  • Patent number: 3988951
Abstract: A four wheel drive automatic transmission assembly having an input driving a fluid torque converter which is connected to drive through a three forward speed and reverse drive planetary front transmission to drive the front wheels and through a low forward speed and reverse drive rear transmission to drive the rear wheels. The rear transmission has the same components for the low forward and reverse drives as the front transmission has for the same drives.
