  • Patent number: 11316319
Abstract: A high average and peak power single transverse mode laser system is operative to output ultrashort single mode (SM) pulses in femtosecond-, picosecond- or nanosecond-pulse duration range at a kW to MW peak power level. The disclosed system deploys master oscillator power amplifier configuration (MOPA) including a SM fiber seed, outputting a pulsed signal beam at or near 1030 nm wavelength, and a Yb crystal booster. The booster is end-pumped by a pump beam output from a SM or low-mode CW fiber laser at a pump wavelength in a 1000-1020 nm wavelength range so that the signal and pump wavelengths are selected to have an ultra-low-quantum defect of less than 3%.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 26, 2022
    Assignee: IPG PHOTONICS CORPORATION

  • Patent number: 7113325
Abstract: A nonlinear optical conversion device includes a nonlinear crystal having entrance and exit surfaces allowing input and output laser beams to propagate in the phase-matching plane for a desired nonlinear generation process. The nonlinear generation process involves a nonlinear interaction in the nonlinear crystal and resultant conversion of power in one or two input beams into power in the output beam. The nonlinear crystal is characterized by absorption and resultant modification of the crystal properties by the power in the output beam, the modification with the potential for reducing the efficiency of the nonlinear process in the crystal, and the nonlinear process involving critical phase-matching in the nonlinear crystal in which the powers in the output beam and input beam or beams propagate in different directions through the process of Poynting vector walk-off. The input beam or beams are of a sufficiently small beam dimension in the phase-matching plane.

  • Patent number: 5982797
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a tunable, solid state laser utilizing room temperature, stable, color centers of LiF:F.sub.2.sup.+ ** material. Also disclosed is a method of lasing. An object of the present invention is to develop and optimize LiF:F.sub.2.sup.+ ** thermostabilized active media, to propose a method of pumping, and to realize a room temperature, stable and efficient operation of the color center laser. These and other objects are achieved by introducing special dopants in the crystal at the stage of crystal growing; applying special regimes of ionizing treatment of the crystal, resulting in thermostabilization of the F.sub.2.sup.+ centers in LiF crystals; and utilizing alexandrite laser radiation for color center crystal pumping with a pump radiation frequency which is appropriate for the selective excitation of the F.sub.2.sup.+ color centers.
