Patent number: 8435247Abstract: An improved resection guide and method using same are disclosed. The guide is preferably utilized in resecting the tibia during either a single or double unicondylar type procedure. Preferably, the guide allows for linked resection of the tibia while also being capable of conforming to many different patient sizes. This may also allow for a more precise resection to be accomplished.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2010Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Howmedica Osteonics Corp.Inventors: Alex F. Canonaco, Sandeep K. Chauhan

Patent number: 8075566Abstract: A multi-piece knee resection instrument for use in forming an anterior cut, an anterior chamfer cut, a posterior cut and a posterior chamfer cut on a distal femur which has already had a distal surface thereof resected which cuts are for the mounting of a prosthetic implant, has a first resection guide for attachment to the medial or lateral side of the distal femur. The first resection guide has a first surface facing generally anteriorly when mounted and a second surface extending distally from the first surface and angled thereto and a third surface extending generally parallel to the resected distal surface of the femur. A second resection guide is mounted on the first and second surfaces of the first resection guide for performing the anterior and anterior chamfer cuts. A third resection guide is mounted on the third surface of the first resection guide and extends in a medial-lateral direction therefrom across at least part of the resected distal femoral surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2006Date of Patent: December 13, 2011Assignee: Howmedica Osteonics Corp.Inventors: Alex F. Canonaco, Michael J. Cusick, Sandeep K. Chauhan

Publication number: 20100160914Abstract: Single use or disposable cutting blocks and methods for utilizing same are disclosed. The blocks are preferably constructed of polymer and/or other suitable low cost and light weight materials. The blocks may be adapted for use with low friction cutting instruments, as well as other such cutting instruments. Several differently sized and configured blocks may be utilized to perform a single surgical procedure. In addition, kits housing one or more such blocks, with or without other instruments are possible.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 1, 2010Publication date: June 24, 2010Applicant: HOWMEDICA OSTEONICS CORP.Inventors: Adam Bastian, Scott Harrington, Mark Nemec, Philip F.
