  • Patent number: 5599185
Abstract: An improved healing abutment includes a deformable cap which rotationally contacts a surface connected to an implant fixture. The deformable cap maybe selectively positioned at a desired angle with respect to the implant fixture. An overcap is positioned over the deformable cap. The overcap has an inner surface which contacts and compresses the deformable cap into secure contact with the surface connected to the implant fixture at the desired angle. This secures the overcap in position at the desired angle, which allows the soft tissue to heal except where the dental prosthesis will be located.

  • Patent number: 5558622
Abstract: A mandibular retractor which is inserted intraorally has a retractor blade shaped to retract the cutaneous region laterally away from the mandible. The retracting blade also has an aperture which allows surgical instruments to be inserted through an incision in the cutaneous region, through the aperture, and to the mandible. The retractor allows a surgeon to retract with one hand and view the surgical site by looking down in to the mouth. The surgeon's other hand is free to operate surgical instruments such as a drill or screwdriver.

  • Patent number: 5409493
Abstract: A surgical drill guide for treating fractures in the craniomaxillofacial region is disclosed. The drill guide includes a telescopic sleeve having an inner telescoping segment slidably mounted within an outer telescoping segment. The telescopic sleeve also has a through-going bore which connects a first opening at an end of the outer telescoping segment with a second opening at an end of the inner telescoping segment. The bore is dimensioned for slidably receiving a drill bit or other instrument therein. The telescopic sleeve is mounted on a handle which includes a trigger. The trigger is provided for slidably retracting the inner segment into the outer segment to expose a preselected length of a drill bit or other instrument inserted through the bore of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5133720
Abstract: A combined surgical drill guide and retractor is useful for treating fractures in the craniomaxillofacial region. The device comprises an L-shaped member having a first short leg and a second long leg, a major retractor extending away from the first leg in a first direction and a minor retractor extending away from the first leg in an opposite direction, an outer sleeve mounted on the first leg, an inner sleeve telescoped within the bore of the outer sleeve, and a lever hingedly mounted on the second leg of the L-shaped member for carrying out a scissoring movement in cooperation with the second leg. The major retractor and the minor retractor cooperate so that when they are inserted into an incision, they will retract the sides of the incision. The major retractor has an arcuate C-like shape so that it can extend around and behind a bone and thus act as a protective stop to prevent a drill bit from penetrating beyond the bone being drilled.
