  • Patent number: 9736728
Abstract: Examples disclosed herein provide systems, methods, and software to manage communication paths in a communication network. In one example, a method of operating a mobility management entity to manage communication paths includes transferring a plurality of general packet radio service tunneling protocol (GTP) messages to a plurality of packet data network gateways, and identifying one or more response messages from the plurality of packet data network gateways. The method further includes determining transaction success information for each packet data network gateway in the plurality of packet data network gateways based on the one or more response messages, and altering communication path allocation based on the transaction success information.

  • Patent number: 9432928
Abstract: A method and corresponding apparatus and system for base station implemented access control based on public land mobile network (PLMN) identity. When a base station receives a request to serve a mobile terminal, the base station will determine the mobile terminal's PLMNid and will decide based on that PLMNid whether to permit or deny the request for service. If the base station thereby decides to permit the request for service, then the base station may process the request in a normal manner. Whereas, if the base station thereby decides to deny the request for service, then the base station may reject the request outright.

  • Patent number: 9432310
Abstract: Systems, methods, and software for handling circuit switch fallback (CSFB) communications are provided herein. A method of operating a wireless communication system is provided, where a wireless communication device is initially configured to use CSFB services over a first wireless communication network. The method includes detecting CSFB failure by at least monitoring performance of a CSBF link between the first wireless communication network and a second wireless communication network that routes voice call signaling over the CSBF link for at least the wireless communication device, and responsive to the CSFB failure, informing at least the wireless communication device of the CSFB failure and routing further voice call signaling for the wireless communication device using the second wireless communication network instead of the CSFB link.

  • Patent number: 9351329
Abstract: A Packet Data Network Gateway (P-GW) to maintain session continuity for a UE in an LTE network comprises a communication transceiver and a processing system. The communication transceiver is configured to receive a first session setup message for the UE. The processing system is configured to process the first session setup message to determine if the UE qualifies for alternate P-GW access, and if the User Equipment qualifies for the alternate P-GW access, generate a second session setup message indicating a primary P-GW ID, a primary P-GW TEID, an alternate P-GW ID, and an alternate P-GW TEID. The communication transceiver is configured to transfer the second session setup message for delivery to a Service Gateway (S-GW) in the LTE network, wherein the S-GW automatically uses the alternate P-GW ID and the alternate P-GW TEID if performance of the primary P-GW ID and the primary P-GW TEID falls below a threshold.

  • Patent number: 9258689
Abstract: Systems, methods, and software for transferring Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) messages over wireless communication networks are provided herein. In one example, a method of operating a management node in a wireless communication network is provided that includes receiving a CMAS message transferred by an emergency authority system for transfer over the wireless communication network, the CMAS message accompanied by a payload list of wireless access nodes that are affected by the CMAS message. The method includes processing the CMAS message and the payload list to determine if wireless access nodes associated with a tracking area handled by the management node are indicated by the payload list. The method includes determining a trimmed payload list that includes at least one of the wireless access nodes, and transferring the CMAS message with the trimmed payload list for delivery to the at least one of the wireless access nodes.

  • Patent number: 8494147
Abstract: System and method for providing a telecommunication transmission from an originating device to a terminating device over a telecommunications network. In one embodiment a bit code may be received from the telecommunication network, such that the bit code is extracted from the telecommunication transmission from the originating device. A directory number associated with the originating source may be received and a predefined message may be determined based at least on the directory number and bit code. The predefined message may be displayed on the terminating device.

  • Patent number: 8320904
Abstract: A method and system for remote troubleshooting of a wireless communication device, such as a cell phone. The cell phone is programmed with server logic, such as a Telnet server application and an FTP server application. A computer at a customer service center for instance is programmed with client logic, such as a Telnet client application and an FTP client application. When a customer service representative receives a call reporting trouble with the cell phone, the representative may conveniently operate the client logic on the computer to log into the cell phone server logic, via a packet-switched network such as the Internet and via a wireless access network (and thus an air interface) serving the cell phone. Through that connection, the customer service representative can thereby cause the cell phone to perform various performance evaluations and can download the evaluation results to conveniently facilitate troubleshooting of the cell phone trouble.

  • Patent number: 8238980
Abstract: A communications device, and a method for efficient utilization of multiple radio access technologies in the communications device, is disclosed. The communications device includes a plurality of radios, where each of the plurality of radios is communicable with a respective one of a plurality of radio access technologies. The communications device attempts to extract control channel information from a radio access technology assigned a highest priority in a first geographic area by a radio associated with the highest priority radio access technology in the first geographic area and, if the control channel information for the highest priority radio access technology in the first geographic area is extracted by the radio associated with the highest priority radio access technology in the first geographic area, the communications device does not enable a second radio associated with a second lower priority radio access technology in the first geographic area.

  • Patent number: 8028320
Abstract: Systems and methods for delivering media to media playback devices are provided. When a media playback device requests suspension of a media stream, the media is stored in a storage area associated with the media playback device. A media playback device can then request resumption of the media stream. The media playback device requesting resumption of the media stream can be the same or different from the device requesting suspension of the media stream.

  • Patent number: 7865204
Abstract: A system and method for providing information to a mobile station in a wireless network are provided. According to the method, a mobile station receives a control channel message wrapped in a unified control channel from a base station, and the mobile station determines a transmission type for incoming data, based upon the unified control channel. For a mobile station that operates with multiple transmission types, the mobile station does not have to monitor each of the control channels that the mobile station can receive, because the unified control channel tells the mobile station which transmission type to listen to. Therefore, the battery life of the mobile station can be extended, because the mobile station does not have to monitor numerous control channels.
