  • Patent number: 10187282
Abstract: Various embodiments of methods and systems for modem management in a portable computing device are disclosed. An exemplary method recognizes an input of a key performance indicator (“KPI”) from a plurality of performance indicators. Based on the key performance indicator either manually by a user or automatically based on system status information, the exemplary method determines a particular modem management and control strategy designed to optimize performance of the modem based on the key performance indicator. The determined modem management and control strategy is implemented to cause adjustment of a modem performance level such that the key performance indicator is optimized. Exemplary KPIs include, lower device temperature, maximization of the percentage of time that the modem is operating at a maximum advertised LTE speed, maximization of the average data throughput, maximization of battery life, and minimizing LTE speed transitions over time.

  • Patent number: 9612648
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing memory channel interleaving with selective power or performance optimization. One such method involves configuring a memory address map for two or more memory devices accessed via two or more respective memory channels with an interleaved region and a linear region. The interleaved region comprises an interleaved address space for relatively higher performance use cases. The linear region comprises a linear address space for relatively lower power use cases. Memory requests are received from one or more clients. The memory requests comprise a preference for power savings or performance. Received memory requests are assigned to the linear region or the interleaved region according to the preference for power savings or performance.

  • Publication number: 20070180187
Abstract: Power consumption of a mobile communication device is reduced by disabling refreshing of unused portions of DRAM. DRAM includes multiple separately refreshable memory refresh ranges (MRRs). A memory refresh manager (MRM) within the device's operating system identifies ranges of virtual memory that will not be used during subsequent sleep mode operation. The MRM remaps virtual to physical memory space to conglomerate the physical memory pages (associated with virtual memory that will not be used) in certain MRRs such that the contents of entire MRRs need not be maintained in sleep mode. Information in any remapped physical page that needs to be maintained during sleep mode is copied so that it resides at the same virtual address after the remapping as before. Other software operates in virtual memory space and is not affected by the remapping. Refreshing of the certain MRRs is then disabled for sleep mode, thereby reducing power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20060281486
Abstract: Techniques for operating two receivers to receive data and paging from two systems are described. A primary receiver is associated with better performance than a secondary receiver under poor RF conditions. The two receivers may be operated in either a hybrid mode in which the primary receiver is used to receive paging or a simultaneous mode in which the second receiver is used to receive paging. One of the modes may be selected for use based on RF conditions, received power, demodulation metrics, and/or other criteria. In one design, a mode is selected based on the received power and one or more thresholds. In another design, the hybrid mode is selected for poor RF conditions and, for good RF conditions, the hybrid or simultaneous mode is selected based on received power.
