  • Patent number: 5639043
Abstract: The invention is a filament tensioning device for use on a spool of a type having filament coiled around a cylindrical barrel bounded by flanges at each end of the barrel. The device, constructed in accordance with the present invention, includes a belt or strip of elastic material such as neoprene. The elastic strip is formed into a ring and end portions adjacent the long ends of the strip are bent transverse to the outer surface of the ring forming a radially extending tab. The two end portions are attached and preferably stitched together using two seams, thereby forming a passage therebetween which extends from the strip ends through the length of the tab into the interior of the ring.In use, the filament tensioning device is placed over the barrel of the spool between the flanges and elastically contracts about and circumscribes the coiled filament.

  • Patent number: 3954336
Abstract: A method of chemical analysis of a sample in solution in which the optical density of the solution is modified by addition of a dye to the solution, and the modified optical density is utilized in determining the concentration of the sample in the solution. That determination is effected by measuring the optical density of the dyed solution and applying a value thereto, and then comparing that value with a predetermined value which corresponds to a particular sample concentration. The actual sample concentration is assigned a value in accordance with the results of that comparison, and that assigned value is employed in determining the concentration of a particular element in the sample by spectral analysis. Apparatus for carrying out the method includes a first spectrophotometer for determining the optical density of the sample solution, and a second spectrophotometer for applying a value to the concentration of the element of interest in the atomized sample.
