  • Patent number: 11913062
Abstract: Present disclosure provides a method including isolating DNA from a source, thereby providing a composition including the isolated DNA. The isolated DNA has at least first and second target regions, where the length of the second target region is greater than the length of the first target region. The method further includes quantifying a total mass of the isolated DNA, quantifying a first quantification cycle (Cq) of the first target region and a second Cq of the second target region, and calculating a Q-ratio for the isolated DNA by dividing the second Cq by the first Cq. The method further includes determining a value for a quality-mass constant (kQm), estimating a required input mass by dividing kQm by the Q-ratio, and preparing the isolated DNA for sequencing if the total mass of the isolated DNA in the composition is equal or greater than the required input mass.

  • Patent number: 4296294
Abstract: A method and apparatus for drying and setting the adhesive on the backs of books contained in book blocks or similar articles by vaporizing the water using high frequency RF energy. The books are generally mounted in clamps and moved on a conveyor from the input of the book binding machine through a ventilation system to its output. A high frequency RF field is disposed along the conveyor and has a plurality of spaced apart RF electrodes wherein the electrodes adjacent to the input and output are more closely spaced together than those in the center of the machine so that the energy of the high frequency RF field can be varied in an inverse proportional relationship to the dielectric loss factor of the adhesive layer during the drying cycle.

  • Patent number: 4234178
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the production of a book block, including sheet feeders disposed in series alongside a continuously running, transversely inclined conveyor belt, so that the sheets are successively fed from the feeders and successively disposed one upon the other on the conveyor belt to form a packet. Each sheet is first conveyed from its associated feeder at a downwardly inclined angle, and in a transverse direction with respect to the conveyor belt, and thereafter accelerated at another downwardly inclined angle and in the direction of the conveyor belt to obtain the conveyor belt speed for deposit thereon. From the conveyor belt, the packets are perforated, aligned, cut into strips and again aligned, all of which being performed at the same inclined angle as the conveyor belt. The strips are then folded and cut into quires. The quires are scaled off and then thrust together and thereupon gathered into the book block blank.

  • Patent number: 4014732
Abstract: A device for drying and setting of backing adhesive material applied to backs of books comprising a feeder adjacent a book binding machine including a conveyor belt on which the back of the books are disposed and a gripper for holding the books in a feeding and clamping range. A plurality of HF-electrodes are positioned opposite to the backs of the book blocks and laterally with respect to a longitudinal axis relative to the conveyor belt, the electrodes being mounted in the feeding and clamping range for the gripper adjacent to the book binding machine. An exhaust is provided which removes evaporation leaving said backing adhesive material.
