  • Publication number: 20240359289
Abstract: A power tool includes a housing, a motor positioned within the housing, an output shaft driven by the motor, the output shaft configured to be coupled to an accessory for operation thereof, a sensing circuit configured to detect, during operation of the power tool, an operating characteristic of the motor, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive a signal from the sensing circuit representing the operating characteristic of the motor, compare the operating characteristic of the motor to a first predetermined threshold, and in response to the operating characteristic exceeding the predetermined threshold, perform a loss of control check on the power tool. Performing the loss of control check includes comparing a detected motion of the power tool to a second predetermined threshold, and tripping loss of control functionality based on whether the detected motion of the power tool exceeds the second predetermined threshold.

  • Publication number: 20240261933
Abstract: An angle grinder includes an output shaft defining a rotational axis, a housing from which the output shaft extends, and a flange coupled to the housing and surrounding the output shaft. The angle grinder further includes a first circumferential groove defined between the flange and the housing, a first array of radially outward-extending slots in the flange and in communication with the first circumferential groove, and a keyway defined in the housing. The keyway is positioned inline with a first of the radially outward-extending slots in the first array. The angle grinder further includes a guard with a second array of radially inward-extending projections and a key positionable within the keyway. The radially inward-extending projections are received in the radially outward-extending slots. The key is able to close the first radially outward-extending slot in the first array to prevent removal of the guard from the housing.

  • Publication number: 20240246189
Abstract: The present invention provides a grinder including a housing, a drive assembly within the housing including an electric motor having a motor shaft, and an output spindle coupled to the motor shaft for rotatably driving a grinding tool. The grinder further includes a tool-free attachment mechanism for selectively mounting the grinding tool to the output spindle for co-rotation therewith including a flange nut threaded to the output spindle, and a backing flange axially movable along the output spindle between a first position, in which a space exists to position the grinding tool between the flange nut and the backing flange, and a second position, in which the grinding tool is clamped between the backing flange and the flange nut.

  • Publication number: 20230158658
Abstract: A grinder including a housing, a motor within the housing, and a first handle attached to the housing and including a first sensor configured to detect the presence of a user. The grinder includes a second handle attached to a pivot arm, the pivot arm attached to the housing and configured to be pivoted around the circumference of the housing, the second handle including a second sensor configured to detect the presence of the user. The grinder includes a controller configured to control the motor based upon the detection of the presence of the user by the first sensor and second sensor, and wherein the controller prevents the motor from operating when second sensor does not detect the presence of the user.
