  • Patent number: 7097663
Abstract: A modular prosthesis for replacement of a joint articulating surface of a bone, where the modular prosthesis generally comprises a head with a recessed socket, an elongate stem, and a connecting member including a patrix member having a generally spherical surface and adapted to be attached to an end of the stem and to be received in the head, and a locking member adapted to lock the head to the stem in a desired orientation; a system for use in surgical repair of a joint including a selection of components for assembling the modular implant prosthesis, a selection of components for assembling a trial prosthesis, and a transfer device for arranging the components of the implant prosthesis in the same orientation as the components of the trial prosthesis; and methods of using the modular prosthesis and system of the invention.

  • Patent number: 5413609
Abstract: A joint prosthesis for a human or animal body, which comprises first (20) and second (40) components each made of bio-compatible material and adapted for secural to respective bones (13,14) of the body in the vicinity of a natural joint (16) after surgical excision of the natural joint (16). The components (20,40) of the prothesis (12) are unattached to each other and, in use, are held together to form the joint by the natural ligaments, tendons and muscles of the body in the vicinity of the natural joint (16). The first component (20) comprises a stem (21) for reception by a bone cavity and a bulbous head (22) presenting a three-dimensionally curved convex articulation surface (23) which in the sagittal plane has a radius of curvature which changes within the arc length of the surface in that plane and which has a length of at least 90.degree..

  • Patent number: 4897927
Abstract: The sensor has at least one strain gauge secured to a strip sufficiently flexible to bend without permanent plastic deformation through a small radius. The output is directly proportional to the relative angular orientation of the ends of the strip regardless of the orientation intermediate the ends.
