The optical coherence tomography instrument can be self-administered, and the eyepiece can be a monocular system or a binocular system.

The embodiments described herein make healthcare data more accessible to users without endangering their privacy and allow conclusions to be made from large sets of data without restricting its use due to privacy concerns. In addition, the distance between the user and a medical device (e.g. an optical coherence tomography instrument) can be adjusted by inflating or deflating the mask. Also disclosed herein is an electronic encounter portal and an automated eye examination. Other embodiments are also described.
