  • Patent number: 4083951
Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions containing acetyl salicylic acid or a salt thereof and a ferrous salt having 1 to 7 equivalents of acetyl salicylic acid per equivalent of ferrous ion and characterized by reduced gastric irritation without major reduction of the usual properties of the acetyl salicylic acid. The compositions are orally administrable and may be formulated in one part or in multi-parts with the parts physically separated to prevent premature reaction particularly when the composition is effervescent.

  • Patent number: 4062978
Abstract: Anti-inflammatory compositions are prepared which comprise a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein X is CO or CHOH; Y is CO, an oxygen atom or a direct bond; the dotted line represents a double bond which is optionally present when Y is an oxygen atom or a direct bond; R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sub.2 is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, methyl, trifluoromethyl, methoxyl, hydroxyl, acetoxyl, nitro or amino; R.sub.3 is alkyl of 3-8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3-8 carbon atoms, alkenyl of 3-8 carbon atoms, cycloalkenyl of 5-8 carbon atoms, phenyl or phenyl substituted by 1 or 2 substituents selected from the group consisting of fluorine, chlorine, bromine, methyl, ethyl, methoxyl, ethoxyl, benzyloxyl, hydroxyl, acetoxyl, trifluoromethyl, nitro, amino, acetyl, methylthiol, methylsulphonyl, methylamino and dimethylamino.Compounds of the above formula are novel except that R.sub.1 must be methyl: when R.sub.3 -- Y is a 4-phenyl group, R.sub.

  • Patent number: 3963750
Abstract: Compounds of the formula: ##SPC1##Wherein R.sub.1 is NHR.sub.5 or OR.sub.5 where R.sub.5 is a hydrogen atom or alkyl group of 1-6 carbon atoms; R.sub.2 is a hydrogen atom or a CO.R.sub.6 group where R.sub.6 is an alkyl group of 1-6 carbon atoms; R.sub.3 is a phenyl group substituted by 1 or 2 halogen atoms or methyl, trifluoromethyl or methoxyl groups; and R.sub.4 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of 1-6 carbon atoms or a phenyl group optionally substituted by 1 or 2 halogen atoms or methyl, trifluoromethyl or methoxyl groups; and salts thereof; have been found to possess valuable anti-inflammatory properties. The preparation and use of such compounds is described.
