  • Patent number: 8031785
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for use in a multi-band OFDM wideband transmission systems are disclosed. A frame of source data is mapped by a transmitter for transmission using a first mapping. The frame of source data is then mapped by the transmitter for retransmission using a second mapping to increase frequency diversity. A receiver may identify source data that experiences fading and communicate the tone/frequency on which the fading occurred to the transmitter so that the transmitter may map the source data that experienced fading during transmission to another tone/frequency for retransmission.

  • Patent number: 7653141
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for transmitting and receiving symbols in a communication system having a plurality of frequency bands are provided. A first symbol is transmitted on a first tone using a first constellation mapping and a second symbol is transmitted on a second tone using a second constellation mapping different from the first constellation mapping. The first symbol is retransmitted on the second tone using the second constellation mapping and the second symbol is retransmitted on the first tone using the first constellation mapping. The first and second symbols are detected from a combination of the received transmitted and retransmitted first and second signals.

  • Patent number: 7650560
Abstract: A method of communication between or among a plurality of devices in a communication system using one or more frames to transmit a plurality of bits includes encoding the plurality of bits in accordance with a first puncture code in a first device of the plurality of devices, transmitting the plurality of encoded bits to a second device of the plurality of devices, and determining in the first device an error condition indicated in a received acknowledgement from the second device. When the error condition indicates a first error code, retransmitting the encoded bits in accordance with the first puncture code, and when the error condition indicates another error condition, different from the first error code, encoding the plurality of bits in accordance with a second puncture code, different from the first puncture code and transmitting the plurality of encoded bits to the second device.

  • Publication number: 20090122987
Abstract: Method and computer program products for enhancing wireless communication in a wireless network are disclosed. In the wireless network, frames of data are transmitted in bursts. Wireless communication is enhanced by transmitting a first frame of source data that is scrambled using a scrambling sequence in a first burst, storing an indicator corresponding to the scrambling sequence for the first frame, identifying the scrambling sequence of the first frame for retransmission of the first frame, retransmitting the first frame (which is scrambled using the identified scrambling sequence) in a subsequent burst, receiving the transmitted and retransmitted first frames, and processing the received transmitted and retransmitted first frames to recover the source data.

  • Patent number: 7454218
Abstract: A control method of synchronizing communications between or among a plurality of devices in a communication system includes detecting beacons from the plurality of devices in the communication system, and establishing a reservation for at least a portion of the plurality of devices in the communication system. Each reservation is a frame interval in which to transmit symbols from one device to one or more of the other devices in the communications system. Each frame interval and intra-frame interval is set according to the established reservation. Each frame interval and intra-frame interval is a plural, integral number of symbol periods in duration.

  • Patent number: 7386027
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for generating and processing wideband signals having reduced discrete power spectral density (PSD) components are disclosed. A wideband signal having reduced discrete PSD components is achieved by generating data symbols responsive to data for transmission, transforming one or more of the data symbols into a frame including one or more orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols, selectively inverting the frame responsive to a pseudo-random data sequence, and modulating wideband signal pulses of the wideband signal with the selectively inverted frame.

  • Patent number: 7366268
Abstract: A method for generating an ultra-wide-band (UWB) having a reduced discrete frequency component defines frame synchronization signal and an inverted frame synchronization signal. As each frame is generated, the method randomly selects the frame synchronization signal or the inverted frame synchronization signal to be included with the frame. The frame synchronization signal is detected by a correlator and the magnitude of the correlation is used to indicate the detection of the frame synchronization signal.

  • Patent number: 6850910
Abstract: A method is provided for distributing multimedia content in an electronic media distribution system. The method includes the steps of: (a) providing active hidden data, where the active hidden data includes a plurality of executable machine instructions; (b) embedding active hidden data into the host data stream, thereby forming an embedded data stream; (c) transmitting the embedded data stream from a content provider device to a player device; (d) extracting the active hidden data from the embedded data stream on the player device; and (e) executing the active hidden data on the player device.

  • Patent number: 6456726
Abstract: A data hiding system and method for providing a method of embedding multiple layers of hidden data into multimedia data. First, a media unit of the multimedia data is evaluated to determine an appropriate embedding procedure. Next during a first embedding pass, a ruling layer of primary hidden data is embedded into the media unit. In another embedding pass, a governing layer of secondary hidden data is embedded on top of the ruling layer. The secondary hidden data provides control information for controlling the primary hidden data and the host data. Control information such as error correction data, synchronization data, decoding data, and authentication data is embedded in the governing layer. Embedding schemes such as base domain and spectrum domain embedding are employed.
