  • Publication number: 20230110835
Abstract: A method for forming a transparent ceramic, in accordance with one embodiment, includes forming a green body by material jetting an ink, and processing the green body to form the ceramic to transparency. A product, in accordance with one embodiment, includes an ink for forming a transparent ceramic. The ink is physically characterized as having a density, surface tension, and viscosity configured to enable material jetting of the ink in contained, sequential droplets having a volume in the range of about 1 picoliter to about 1 nanoliter when jetted from a nozzle having an inner diameter in the range of about 10 microns to about 300 microns. A product, in accordance with another embodiment, includes a transparent ceramic, at least a portion of the transparent ceramic having layers of less than 50 microns per layer with physical characteristics of formation by material jetting.

  • Publication number: 20050168804
Abstract: An optical fiber amplifier includes a length of silica optical fiber having a core doped with neodymium, a first cladding and a second cladding each with succeeding lower refractive indices, where the first cladding diameter is less than 10 times the diameter of the core. The doping concentration of the neodymium is chosen so that the small signal absorption for 816 nm light traveling within the core is less than 15 dB/m above the other fiber losses. The amplifier is optically pumped with one laser into the fiber core and with another laser into the first cladding.

  • Patent number: 4928756
Abstract: A compressible heat-dissipating fin, a compressed heat-dissipating fin assembly, and a method for making a fin assembly for cooling an electromechanical device such as a transverse-flow forced air-cooled ion gas laser are disclosed. Each fin preferably has a slit running through its center except for a small hinge. The slit provides the fin with compressibility and increased contact pressure when the fin is fitted directly to and compressed against the tube, preferably by clamping, during the brazing cycle.
