  • Patent number: 4935262
Abstract: A method of making a cable article which comprises a conductor that is at least partially insulated by a flexible composition, said method comprising forming a homogeneous, interdispersed polymer insulation composition by combining low density polyethylene polymer with a polychloroprene polymer and at least an amount of fibrous polytetrafluoroethylene that is effective to form an interdispersion of polymers and thereafter coating a conductor with said insulating composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 2, 1989
Date of Patent: June 19, 1990
Assignee: Union Carbide Chemicals and Plastics Company Inc.
Inventors: Edward V. Wilkus, Alexander F. Wu
  • Patent number: 4913962
Abstract: This application discloses a cable article comprising a conductor that is at least partially insulated with a flexible composition comprising low density polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride polymer ingredients and an effective amount of an interdispersing agent selected from the group consisting of fibrous polytetrafluoroethylene and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4797323
Abstract: Very high levels of insulation resistance and of insulation resistance stability of insulating compositions having polyolefin bases and having polar organic additives are achieved in this invention. The polar organic additives can be organic halogenated flame retardants, such as decabromodiphenyl oxide. The surprising increase in insulation resistance and in insulation resistance stability is achieved by addition of certain antioxidants in combination and, particularly, the addition of a zinc salt of mercaptoimidazole and a sterically hindered ditertiary butyl phenol. The composition may be crosslinked by radiation or even by chemical means as through use or organic peroxides without loss of the surprisingly increased insulation resistance and insulation resistance stability.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 19, 1985
Date of Patent: January 10, 1989
    Assignee: Vulkor, Incorporated

The surprising increase in insulation resistance and in insulation resistance stability is achieved by addition of certain antioxidants in combination and, particularly, the addition of a zinc salt of mercaptoimidazole and a sterically hindered di-tertiary butyl phenol. The composition may be crosslinked by radiation or even by chemical means as through use of organic peroxides without loss of the surprisingly increased insulation resistance and insulation resistance stability.

  • Patent number: 4647602
Abstract: This invention provides a method of dispersing a fluoroplastic in a polymer composition. The method comprises the steps of comminuting the fluoroplastic to a uniform dispersion, admixing with the fluoroplastic a finely divided solid adherent material that will coat at least a portion of said fluoroplastic to form a coated fluoroplastic and combining said coated fluoroplastic with a polymer using intensive mixing means.
