  • Patent number: 10247317
Abstract: A rotary valve is provided including a housing with an inner chamber having a first inlet, a first outlet, a second inlet, and a second outlet. A valve body is rotatably positioned in the housing. The valve body includes at least one isolated fluid pathway that, depending upon a rotational position of the valve body, provides at least one of a direct connection of one or more of the inlets to one or more of the outlets, or permits flow from at least an other one of the inlets or the outlets that are not in the direct connection created by the at least one isolated fluid pathway into or from the inner chamber. At least one actuator controls the position of the valve body.

  • Patent number: 10184572
Abstract: A valve arrangement including a sealing element is provided. The valve arrangement includes a housing having a port. A rotary valve body includes an opening, and the rotary valve body is arranged within the housing. The port of the housing and the opening of the rotary valve body are alignable with each other via rotation of the rotary valve body in the housing. A sealing element is arranged within the port. The sealing element includes a seal body having a first axial end engaged against the rotary valve body and a second axial end including a resilient axially compressible portion that engages against a seat in the housing. The resilient axially compressible portion of the sealing element preloads the sealing element axially against the rotary valve body.

A first valve body is rotatably positioned in the at least one flow chamber, and includes a fluid pathway that connects a first port to the flow chamber, which allows separate or mixed flows, or blocks the flow, based on the valve body position. A second valve body is rotatably positioned in the at least one flow chamber, and includes a fluid pathway that connects a second port, which allows separate or mixed flows, or blocks the flow, based on the second valve body position. One or more actuators can be used to independently position the first and second valve bodies. An indirect connection, which can be an epicyclic gear arrangement, allows a single actuator to independently position both valve bodies.

  • Publication number: 20160040584
Abstract: An external actuator for a variable water pump is provided having a housing and variable flow impeller located therein that is connected to a drive shaft. The actuator includes a housing and a drive ring rotatably mounted therein, with the drive ring having external teeth and an internal thread. A drive gear is engaged with the external teeth of the drive ring, with the drive gear being rotatably mounted in the housing. A drive nut having external threads is located within the drive ring with the external threads engaging the internal threads of the drive ring. Rotation of the drive ring causes an axial displacement of the drive nut. At least one actuator pin is connected to the drive nut and extends into the water pump housing to the variable flow impeller. A motor is connected to the drive gear for rotation of the drive gear to vary an output.

  • Publication number: 20150098804
Abstract: An external actuator for a variable water pump is provided having an actuator housing with an outer wall with a plurality of radially inwardly directed projections, and a drive ring rotatably mounted in the housing. The drive ring has an internal thread. The projections contact an outer surface of the drive ring to define a plurality of hydraulic chambers that are divided by vanes extending from the drive ring into first and second chamber portions. A control valve controls a flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid to the chambers to rotate the drive ring in both directions or hold it in position. A drive nut having external threads is located within the drive ring and rotation of the drive ring causes an axial displacement of the drive nut. An actuator pin connected to the drive nut extends into the water pump housing to actuate the variable flow impeller.

  • Publication number: 20140334949
Abstract: A regulatable coolant pump of an internal combustion engine having a pump housing in which a pump shaft with an associated impeller is rotatably mounted. The impeller conveys a coolant from an inlet connection into an outlet of the coolant pump, a volume flow of the coolant pump being adjustable by a cover that externally surrounds the impeller at least in some regions and is displaceable by a pressure medium. The cover is moved by an actuator including a solenoid in contact with a piston that is moveable into a piston pressure chamber in order to generate high pressure pulses of a pressure medium that are transmitted to a plunger chamber where they act on a plunger connected to the cover. Upon actuation of the solenoid, the cover is moved by the pressure medium acting on the plunger to an actuated end position.
