  • Patent number: 4773251
Abstract: A metallic die for extruding a metal material, preferably a material of Al or alloys thereof, and/or of nonferrous metals, particularly Cu or alloys thereof, has an essentially flat, disc-shaped die body with at least one aperture, and a second aperture segment which adjoins a first aperture segment. The first aperture segment corresponds to and gives the final form to the desired cross section of the extrusion, and the second aperture segment is at least coincident with the first in its extent transversely to the pressing direction, and is preferably everywhere wider than the first aperture segment. The die body has at least two die parts which adjoin each other at a surface which is preferably generally flat and extends transversely to the press direction.

  • Patent number: 4756677
Abstract: The weapon barrel comprises a liner and at least one jacket tube. The liner is made of a highly wear-resistant material, like a cobalt or nickel base alloy, and the jacket tube is made of a tough alloy, like steel. In the manufacturing process the liner material is packed into the jacket tube in the form of a powdery material which may be pre-pressed or pre-sintered. The packing is arranged such as to leave a central free space in the jacket tube, and the jacket tube may be surrounded by an encapsulating tube. The jacket tube or the encapsulating tube is closed either before or after evacuation, and the closed tube arrangement is subjected to a combined heat and pressure treatment at temperatures of at least 900.degree. C., but below the melting point of the relevant materials and at pressures of at least 900 bar. The compound body thus obtained is formed with a full-area metallic bond between the liner and the jacket tube.

  • Patent number: 4477295
Abstract: A method of fabricating conveyor or feed worms, especially those used in plastic processing machines, containing a tough steel core and a high wear resistant plating. Initially, there is fabricated a compound metal blank by forging or hot rolling a substantially rod-shaped steel core provided with a snugly bearing sleeve or sheath formed of the plating material while forming a metallic bond between the core and the sleeve and while reducing the sleeve diameter by at least 20%. After soft annealing the blank there is formed therefrom the worm profile, and then there is accomplished a thermal treatment which entails hardening and tempering in order to set the hardness of the plating material as well as the core material, and finally there is accomplished the finished machining to the final dimensions.

  • Patent number: 4471899
Abstract: The invention is concerned with the object of providing an advantageous manufacturing method for a machine hollow cylinder subjected to high working pressure and pronounced erosion action, especially those used for plastic processing machines. To that end a preferably cylindrical-shaped blank composed of a high-wear resistant, hardenable and corrosion-resistant steel core and a sleeve formed of structural steel, is shaped by forging or hot rolling while forming a metallic bond between core and sleeve and a reduction in the cross-sectional area of the core material by at least 20%. Then by applying a bore while taking into account the machining clearance there is formed the hollow cylinder, there is accomplished the hardening which is accommodated to the core material, and there is undertaken the machining for obtaining the desired final dimension.
