    Abstract: An electronically activated mailer capable of containing one or more articles to be shipped and having an activation code on the mailer or a receipt for it. The purchaser or user of the mailer scans the activation code, such as a QR code, using a digital camera on a mobile phone and, upon receiving the scan, the mobile phone is linked to a web application. The validity of the activation code is verified, possibly using a verification code on the mailer. Upon verifying the activation code, the mailer is activated to receive via the web application destination and return addresses and pick-up information for the mailer. The pick-up information payment are provided to a carrier for delivery of the mailer. Purchase of the mailer can also possibly be used to access shipping services via the web application.

Based on receiving a new drug/comparator drug pairing selection, an analysis engine identifies from healthcare claims a statistically matched first of patients having used the new drug and second group of patients having used the comparator drug; identifies a comparative occurrence of existing medical conditions or new medical conditions in the statistically matched groups; and calculates a probability value indicating a relative likelihood that a patient taking the new drug will have a medical condition from the new or existing medical conditions in comparison to a likelihood that a patient taking the comparator drug will have the medical condition.

In one example, a database of healthcare claims is utilized and the method may include identifying from the database a first group of patients that have received the drug; extracting one or more medical events that the first group of patients have experienced; identifying a second group of patients that have received a comparator drug; extracting one or more medical events that the second group of patients have experienced; and comparing the one or more medical events of the first group to the one or more medical events of the second group to determine one or more common occurrences therebetween. The method may also include computing a probability value for each of the one or more common occurrences. In this way, embodiments of the present invention may be used to identify and quantify the probability that certain medical events will occur to patients taking the new drug.

The medical events of the first group are compared to the medical events of the second group to determine at least one common occurrence therebetween. The common occurrence(s) is then filtered based upon one or more user defined outcomes, each including at least one diagnosis, procedure or therapeutic classification; non-medical criteria; and/or patient laboratory test data.
